Air France–KLM and ITA Airways are officially parting ways. The 2 airlines, which have allowed members of their respective frequent flier programs — Flying Blue and Volare — to earn and redeem miles on each other’s flights, will end their partnership on November 15, 2025.

This breakup isn’t surprising, given that the airlines will be in different alliances. Here’s what you need to know about the end of this partnership.

Air France–KLM and ITA Airways End Partnership as ITA Joins Star Alliance

ITA Airways’ shift toward joining Star Alliance is bringing another major change for frequent fliers. After leaving SkyTeam earlier this year, the airline has been gradually phasing out partnerships with its former alliance members, and the Air France–KLM Flying Blue relationship is next to go.

Starting November 16, 2025, members of Flying Blue and ITA’s Volare will no longer be able to earn or redeem miles or receive elite benefits on each other’s flights. The only exception: Travelers may still earn Flying Blue miles when flying ITA-operated flights that carry an Air France (AF) or KLM (KL) flight number, and vice versa.

While ITA officially left the SkyTeam alliance on April 30, 2025, some reciprocal benefits with former partners — like Air France and KLM — had continued during the transition. This slow phase-out has allowed travelers to keep crediting ITA flights to SkyTeam programs such as Flying Blue or Delta SkyMiles.

The change comes as ITA prepares to join Star Alliance, where it will align with Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, and Brussels Airlines. The airline has already ended other partnerships, including with Virgin Atlantic, as it completes its transition into the Lufthansa Group network. Once ITA Airways fully integrates into the network next year, we’ll learn more about its Star Alliance benefits.

Hot Tip:

If you have Flying Blue or Volare miles to use, consider planning your bookings soon. Once a partnership ends, award space is likely to become nonexistent, so it’s wise to lock in redemptions well before November 15, 2025.

Final Thoughts

The Air France–KLM and ITA Airways partnership wind-down marks the end of an era for travelers who enjoyed cross-program earning and redemption opportunities. With ITA’s entry into Star Alliance expected next year, frequent fliers can look forward to a new set of partner opportunities, but it’s officially time to say “arrivederci” to Flying Blue.
