Flying Blue, the shared rewards program of Air France and KLM, has offered a co-branded credit card from Bank of America since 2019. It’s always been a Mastercard. This news was originally supposed to come out in a few days, but Air France is now letting the cat out of the bag early.

Along with a change to Visa, the card is also adding bonus rewards on dining purchases, additional ways to earn Experience Points (XP) toward elite status, and an elevated welcome offer. What’s not changing? The reasonable annual fee.

Keeping the annual fee the same while adding perks is a rarity in the world of credit cards — especially for a card that earns valuable miles and has an annual fee under $100.

Meet the new Air France KLM Visa Signature® Credit Card.

Overview of the New Air France KLM Visa Card

The new Air France KLM Visa card has the same $89 annual fee as the now-defunct Air France KLM World Elite Mastercard®. In exchange for that annual fee, cardholders will enjoy the following perks:

  • 5,000 bonus Flying Blue miles deposited into your account each year if you spent at least $50 on the card in the previous year
  • 20 XP deposited into your Flying Blue account each year, helping you qualify for elite status
  • New benefit: Earn 80 XP after spending at least $15,000 on your card in a calendar year (up from the previous 40 XP)
  • New benefit: Earn 60 XP after spending at least $25,000 on your card in a calendar year (total of 160 XP possible annually)
  • New benefit: Visa Signature perks
  • No foreign transaction fees

Cardholders will also see improvements to their earning categories:

  • 3 miles per $1 spent on Air France, KLM, and SkyTeam bookings
  • 1.5 miles per $1 spent on everyday purchases
  • New benefit: 3 miles per $1 spent on dining

The dining category is not capped; you can earn 3x all year in this new bonus category. Plus, while many credit cards offer just 1x earnings on those “other” purchases outside bonus categories, this card offers 1.5x.

A spokesperson for Flying Blue confirmed that existing cardholders of the existing World Elite Mastercard will be transitioned to the new Visa Signature card seamlessly. There’s no action required. This transition will start in March 2026, but existing cardholders will be able to use the card’s new perks immediately.

Welcome Offer on the New Air France KLM Visa Card

A credit card’s makeover usually comes with a welcome bonus offer, and this time is no different. New applicants for the Air France KLM Visa card can earn the following bonus: Earn 70,000 bonus miles plus 100 XP after spending $3,000 on purchases within 90 days of account opening. Interested applicants will be able to apply starting at 9 a.m. ET on January 21.

We value Flying Blue miles at 1.3 cents each. That makes 70,000 bonus miles worth $910. The value of 100 XP is subjective, based on how you value Flying Blue elite status.

Final Thoughts

It’s rare to see a credit card add perks without increasing its annual fee. Flying Blue’s credit card has remained somewhat of a sleeper in the U.S. credit card market, but it offers 1.5x miles on daily spending in a world where most cards offer just 1x.

Now, the card also includes a 3x dining category and additional ways to earn XP toward Flying Blue status, available through 2 different spending tiers. There’s also a limited-time welcome offer for 70,000 miles and 100 XP as part of the launch, yet the annual fee on the revamped Air France KLM Visa card is still just $89.
