Air France is determined to make its reimagined premium economy stand out from the crowd.

Passengers traveling in Premium will now enjoy a larger pre-landing meal on flights over 7 hours. Let’s take a look at the details.

Air France’s New Premium Second Meal

Premium economy flights usually seem like a step up from economy until the pre-landing “meal.” On most airlines, premium economy passengers receive the same very small, and often very average, food that is served in economy. It’s usually just a snack or small sandwich.

Air France was one of those airlines … until now. As part of the airline’s efforts to make its Premium experience more “premium,” the economy snack has been replaced with an exclusive premium economy meal on flights over 7 hours.

The news comes just 2 months after Air France announced an upgraded meal service in premium economy for the main (first) meal on flights between France and North America.

On daytime flights, passengers can enjoy a selection of what the airline calls “club sandwiches.” On flights over 10 hours, meals will be served with an additional mixed salad and warm bread.

Better still, passengers on overnight flights will now enjoy a more substantial breakfast — usually the worst of all plane meals, no matter the airline.

As a significant upgrade from a packed snack, passengers will now be served a continental breakfast featuring a pastry, fromage frais (French white cheese), and granola prior to landing. Warm bread will also be offered on flights over 10 hours.

Compared to the “bon appetit” box I’m used to in Air France premium economy, the new option looks like a considerable improvement.

If you’re planning to fly to Europe (or beyond) in premium economy and want to get the most value for your dollar, then Air France’s enhanced meal service is a surefire upgrade from what you’ll find on most other airlines.

Hot Tip:

Air France’s robust route network of 21 airports across the U.S. makes for a great option when planning a trip to Europe, no matter where you are in the states.

Final Thoughts

I have to admire the way Air France is determined to offer an even more premium experience for its passengers flying premium economy. However, we won’t know for sure just how good it really is until we’ve tasted the new meals for ourselves.
