Some big news from Alaska Airlines today: the carrier is adding nonstop service to New York (JFK) from Alaska’s largest city, Anchorage (ANC).

Let’s take a look at this exciting news!

Alaska Expands Service From 2 Cities to Anchorage

Alaska Airlines is launching the only nonstop service between New York (JFK) and Anchorage (ANC) — its longest flight — and will also begin service to San Diego (SAN) next year.

ANC to JFK service will be operated on the Boeing 737-8, while the ANC to SAN flights will be operated on the Boeing 737. Both offer a 3-class cabin: first class, premium class, and coach.

Saturday weekly flights to San Diego start May 18, 2024, while daily flights to New York begin June 13, 2024.

“Alaskans love nonstop flights to and from the state. We like having great travel options, and adding places such as New York and San Diego definitely fit the bill,” said Marilyn Romano, regional vice president for Alaska Airlines.

Romano went on to say that during peak summer days, Alaska will have a “robust flight schedule” of 63 departures a day from ANC.

With these new additions, Alaska will serve the following destinations to and from Anchorage next summer:

  • Chicago (ORD)
  • Denver (DEN)
  • Honolulu (HNL)
  • Los Angeles (LAX)
  • Las Vegas (LAS)
  • Minneapolis (MSP)
  • New York (JFK)
  • Phoenix (PHX)
  • Portland (PDX)
  • Salt Lake City (SCL)
  • San Diego (SAN)
  • San Francisco (SFO)
  • Seattle (SEA)
  • Seattle/Everett (PAE)

Flights are on sale now and start at 40,000 Alaska Mileage Plan miles or $539 one-way (from ANC to JFK) and 40,000 miles or $429 one-way (from ANC to SAN).

If you are booking with cash, make sure to book using a credit card that rewards you for Alaska purchases. If you’re booking with miles and running short, you can transfer Marriott Bonvoy points at a rate of 3:1. (For every 60,000 points you transfer, you’ll get a bonus of 5,000 Alaska miles.)

Bottom Line:

The route between ANC and JFK will cover a whopping 3,386 miles!

Final Thoughts

It’s not often that you see Alaska launch a new route from its namesake state, so this ANC-JFK route is pretty exciting news. This route launch will connect New Yorkers to one of the most difficult-to-reach states in the U.S. and will be a fantastic option for travelers interested in exploring everything Alaska offers.

We’ll be on the lookout when these flights launch next year!
