Alaska Airlines has updated its website with news that isn’t going to make travelers happy: a fee increase when you redeem Atmos Rewards points on partner airlines. The change takes effect July 1, 2026, and it’s a 60% increase from the current rate.

While the fee won’t slaughter the value of your award redemptions, it’s still bad news. Here’s what you need to know.

What Is the Partner Award Fee?

Whenever you use Alaska Airlines Atmos Rewards points to book a flight operated by a partner airline — think Oneworld alliance members and other non-Alaska-operated partners — the program charges a partner award fee. This is a per-person, per-direction fee applied at checkout, separate from the standard taxes and carrier-imposed charges.

Right now, that fee sits at $12.50 per person, each way. So a round-trip award for 2 people on a partner carrier would add $50 in partner fees alone, before any other taxes.

The good news is that Atmos™ Rewards Summit Visa Infinite® card holders don’t pay this fee, which is one of the more valuable perks of that card — especially for those who regularly book partner award flights.

It’s also worth noting that the fee doesn’t apply to award flights operated by Alaska Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, or Horizon Air. Those flights are subject only to standard taxes and fees, starting at just $5.60 each way.

Partner Award Fee Increasing on July 1

Alaska Airlines has added a footnote to its award charts page confirming the fee will jump from $12.50 to $20 per person, each way, on tickets issued on or after July 1, 2026.

To put that into perspective, a round-trip partner award booking for a family of 4 would cost $160 in partner fees alone under the new rate, compared to $100 today. That difference can add up quickly on multi-passenger itineraries.

If you’re ready to book, locking in award travel before July 1 will preserve the current $12.50 fee. The key date is when the ticket is issued, not when you travel, so there’s some flexibility here. Atmos Rewards Summit cardholders don’t pay this fee regardless, so this change won’t affect them.

In the grand scheme of award travel fees, $20 isn’t catastrophic. Atmos Rewards partner awards can still provide solid value compared to cash fares, even with this fee baked in. Still, it’s an added cost for a booking process that’s now almost entirely handled online rather than through a phone agent — which was the original justification for charging it in the first place.

Hot Tip:

These are our favorite ways to redeem Atmos Rewards points for top value.

Final Thoughts

Alaska’s partner award fee increase isn’t going to ruin anyone’s travel plans, but it’s a real and frustrating change for those who regularly book travel using points to fly on Alaska Airlines’ numerous partners. Book before July 1, 2026, to pay the current fee, or add the Atmos Rewards Summit card to your wallet to avoid it altogether.
