In October 2024, Alaska Airlines and Taiwanese carrier Starlux Airlines announced a codeshare partnership, meaning their passengers gained more connectivity between the U.S. and Asia because they could purchase a single ticket to connect on an Alaska Airlines flight to Starlux’s U.S. destinations before continuing onward to Taiwan.

Now, that codeshare has grown by adding an additional 12 cities to the partnership.

Let’s go over all the details.

Original Codeshare Agreement Details

The original agreement allowed passengers to seamlessly book flights on both airlines under a single ticket, making travel easier for flights to Taiwan from multiple U.S. cities. The original list included Austin (AUS), Dallas Fort Worth (DFW), Denver (DEN), Las Vegas (LAS); Portland, Oregon (PDX); Phoenix (PHX), Salt Lake City (SLC), and San Diego (SAN).

This was a great addition for Alaska Airlines loyalists, letting them earn redeemable points and elite-qualifying activity on Starlux flights. It was also good news for award travelers looking to use Alaska’s Atmos Rewards points to book Starlux flights.

Codeshare Expands to 12 More Cities

The eligible route list now includes the 8 original cities and 12 new options for a total of 20 Alaska Airlines destinations eligible for codeshare flights with Starlux:

Flights from the U.S. West Coast to Taipei fall within the 5,001-to-7,000-mile band, meaning these flights set you back 37,500 points for economy, 50,000 points for premium economy, and 75,000 points for business class. Flights to Phoenix, unfortunately, move into the next band and require 42,500, 55,000, or 85,000 points, respectively.

In our view, the Starlux business class experience is well worth it If you’ve got the miles to burn.

Furthermore, thanks to Alaska Airlines’ free stopover policy on award tickets, you can visit Taipei and add an additional short-haul flight to another city, like Hong Kong (HKG) or Fukuoka (FUK), without needing to pay more miles, so long as the total flight distance is less than 7,000 miles.

Final Thoughts

It is great to see Alaska and Starlux further strengthen their partnership, as this will surely provide more value to customers of both airlines.

The expansion of this partnership isn’t a surprise, as Starlux is hoping to become a Oneworld Alliance member in the near future. It’s made several moves, including this one, to boost partnerships with Oneworld members.
