Alaska Airlines frequent flyers will soon be able to earn and redeem miles on select flights with Philippine Airlines.

The flag carrier of the Philippines will become Mileage Plan’s 32nd airline partner. In addition to nonstop flights to the capital city of Manila (MNL), this opens up exciting new redemption possibilities to paradise destinations around the Philippine archipelago.

“The large Filipino communities living in Hawai‘i, California, and Washington state can travel on Philippine Airlines long-haul, widebody aircraft and soon earn valuable Mileage Plan miles on their transpacific journeys,” said Brett Caitlin, vice president of loyalty, alliances, and sales at Alaska Airlines.

Let’s take a look at the details.

Redeeming and Earning Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan Miles on Philippines Airlines Flights

Some time in the near future — on a date yet to be specified by Alaska Airlines — members of the Mileage Plan frequent flyer program will be able to earn and redeem miles on Philippine Airlines’ nonstop flights from Hawaii and the West Coast to the Philippines.

The earning and redeeming of Mileage Plan miles will also be possible on Philippine Airlines’ domestic network, as well as onward flights to other destinations in Asia.

In addition to the ability to use points, booking cash flights with Philippine Airlines will also be possible directly via Alaska Airlines’ website.

This will give travelers wanting to travel between the U.S. and the Philippines even more booking options when planning their trip.

Even though Philippine Airlines operates 3x weekly nonstop flights between Manila and New York (JFK), Mileage Plan members won’t be able to earn or redeem miles on this route.

In total, Philippine Airlines flies 32 nonstop flights per week from Manila to the U.S:

Hot Tip:

This new partnership between Alaska and Philippine Airlines is, in part, made possible thanks to the partnership that already exists between Philippine Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines, the airline that Alaska recently acquired.

Final Thoughts

The Philippines and Philippine Airlines might be considered a travel niche. However, the ability to earn and redeem Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan miles on Philippine Airlines flights will likely make it the frequent flyer program of choice when booking travel to Manila or the nation’s paradisiacal beaches.

We’ll be sure to update this post once we learn of a launch date and those all-important redemption rates.
