Update:

Since publishing this story, a spokesperson for Alaska Airlines confirmed that redemptions for Philippine Airlines should come online later in 2026.

In May 2025, we learned that Philippines Airlines would become the 32nd airline partner of Alaska Airlines. This would mean earning and redeeming points on select flights with Philippine Airlines would be possible.

However, those redemptions never launched. And now, without warning, Alaska has now demoted Philippine Airlines to its third-tier group of airlines, which seems to indicate that thee ability to redeem points to fly Philippine Airlines isn’t coming.

Here’s what this update means for the Alaska Airlines and Philippine Airlines partnership.

Redeeming and Earning Alaska Airlines Atmos Points on Philippines Airlines Flights

Until Friday, January 16, 2026, Alaska Airlines Atmos Rewards members could earn points when flying Philippine Airlines. That was true whether they booked their flight through Alaska’s channels or through Philippine Airlines and put their Atmos Rewards number on the ticket. This was a great perk for those flying between the U.S. and the Philippines, as well as on the Manila-based carrier’s domestic and regional network.

Plus, we were expecting the ability to use Atmos Rewards points for these flights to come online soon.

The prospective for redeeming Atmos Rewards points on Philippine Airlines seems to have ended, now that the airline was moved to Alaska’s third tier of its airline partner list. Moving forward, you can still earn Atmos Rewards points when flying Philippines Airlines, but the flights must be booked via Alaska Airlines. You’ll no longer be able to book the prices shown on the Philippine Airlines website and earn points by adding your Atmos Rewards number to the booking that way.

Even though Philippine Airlines operates 3x weekly nonstop flights between Manila and New York (JFK), Atmos Rewards members won’t be able to earn points on this route or the carrier’s other flights.

In total, Philippine Airlines flies 34 nonstop flights per week from Manila to the U.S:

  • 2x daily to Los Angeles (LAX)
  • 1x daily to San Francisco (SFO)
  • 5x week to Honolulu (HNL)
  • 3x week to New York (JFK)
  • 5x week to Seattle (SEA)
Hot Tip:

The partnership between Alaska and Philippines Airlines was, in part, made possible thanks to the partnership that already exists between Philippine Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines, the airline that Alaska recently acquired.

Final Thoughts

The Philippines and Philippine Airlines might be considered a travel niche. However, the ability to earn and redeem Alaska Airlines Atmos Rewards points on Philippine Airlines flights could have swayed Atmos Rewards members to book flights with Philippine Airlines.

As there’s no option to redeem Atmos Rewards points on the Filipino flag carrier, Atmos Rewards members heading to the Philippines should look to redeem points to fly indirectly with American or Japan Airlines, rather than flying nonstop with Philippine Airlines.

The demotion to the third tier doesn’t mean the end of award tickets to the Philippines, it just means the Atmos Rewards program isn’t your best option anymore.

We’ll be sure to update this post once Alaska releases more details of the partnership.
