If you’re looking for a warm getaway this winter, American Airlines has you covered. The airline announced today that it will add new winter routes to 2 destinations in Mexico and boost existing service across the Caribbean.

“As the leading U.S. airline in Mexico, the Caribbean and Latin America, at American we’re focused on growing our network, giving our customers access to their favorite destinations in the region — from the tropical paradise of Puerto Rico to the dynamic and cosmopolitan city of Mexico City, and beyond,” said José A. Freig, vice president of international and inflight dining operations.

There’s a lot to cover, so let’s dive right in!

American’s Big Winter Expansion

American Airlines will launch several new routes from Chicago (ORD) and Philadelphia (PHL) this winter.

The airline will start daily flights from Chicago to Mexico City (MEX) beginning October 26. Additionally, American will offer daily, seasonal service from Chicago to Queretaro (QRO) in central Mexico between December 18, 2025, and January 5, 2026.

Finally, AA will also begin service from Philadelphia (PHL) to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (SDQ) beginning December 18.

But that’s not all. In addition to new flights to Mexico, American also plans to increase frequencies on several existing Caribbean routes during the winter holiday season. Specifically, American is boosting service from 2 of its major hubs: Philadelphia (PHL) and Miami (MIA).

From Philadelphia, American will offer the following routes and frequencies between December 18, 2025, and January 5, 2026:

  • Aruba (AUA): Increase to 2x daily
  • San Juan (SJU): Increase to 3x daily
  • St. Maarten (SXM): Increase to daily service from 1x weekly

American will add even more flights from its Miami hub, which is a major gateway to the Caribbean. From Miami, American will make the following changes:

  • Dominica (DOM): Increase to 2x daily
  • Kingston (KIN): Increase to 4x daily
  • Marsh Harbour, Bahamas (MHH): Increase to 3x daily
  • North Eleuthera, Bahamas (ELH): Increase to 3x daily
  • Ocho Rios, Jamaica (OCJ): Increase to 2x daily
  • San Juan (SJU): Increase to 7x daily
  • Santiago, Dominican Republic (STI): Increase to 3x daily
  • Tortola, British Virgin Islands (EIS): Increase to 5x daily
Bottom Line:

Reservations will be available starting July 14 at aa.com or on the American app for new flights. Unfortunately, we’re unable to see how much flights cost in cash or with American AAdvantage miles.

Final Thoughts

American Airlines has big plans for Mexico and the Caribbean this winter as it adds and expands flights in the region. While we don’t have details about how much flights will cost, this is still fantastic news for American loyalists who will have more options to get to the Caribbean — including up to 7x daily flights!
