Last summer, American Airlines announced a significant expansion of its summer 2026 flying schedule, including several new and exciting routes to Europe.

Four of the 5 announced European routes the carrier announced begin today, May 21, 2026, kicking off an exciting summer of flying for the Fort Worth, Texas-based carrier.

Here’s a brief look at each route and how to book with cash or miles.

4 AA Routes to Europe Begin Today

It’s an exciting summer of flying for American Airlines, which added several new routes, 5 of which go to Europe. Four of these 5 nonstop European routes start flying today, May 21:

  • Summer seasonal service between Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) and Athens (ATH), Greece
  • Summer seasonal service between Dallas Fort Worth and Zurich (ZRH), Switzerland
  • Summer seasonal service between Philadelphia (PHL) and Budapest (BUD), Hungary
  • Summer seasonal service between Philadelphia and Prague (PRG), Czechia

Note, too, that the carrier already started flying another European route, Miami (MIA) to Milan (MXP), Italy, at the end of March, and it also begins flying between DFW and Buenos Aires (EZE), Argentina, today. The Miami-Milan route will operate year-round, while DFW-Buenos Aires will operate seasonally during the North American summer.

How To Book

Tickets for these routes have been on sale for several months, so you can book now with cash or American Airlines AAdvantage miles. Here’s a brief look at pricing for each of the newly started European routes.

Dallas Fort Worth-Athens

One-way flights between DFW and Athens start at $679 one-way for basic economy and $779 for Main Cabin. However, dates at these prices are very limited, and most dates throughout the summer see one-way flights costing over $1,000 one-way.

Flagship Business class starts at a whopping $4,589 one-way, though prices can soar far beyond that.

If you’re looking to redeem AAdvantage miles, expect to pay at least 30,000 miles plus taxes and fees for a one-way economy flight, and at least 77,000 miles in business class. Availability at that rate is extremely limited, and prices can hit well over 400,000 miles one-way.

Dallas Fort Worth-Zurich

One-way flights between DFW and Zurich start at $734 one-way in basic economy and $834 in Main Cabin. This route runs for a relatively short period, and most dates are selling for close to or over $1,000 one-way in economy.

If you’re in need of AAdvantage miles, remember that you can transfer Citi ThankYou Points at a 1:1 ratio. Otherwise, you can transfer Marriott Bonvoy points at a less desirable 3:1 rate.

However, we also recommend checking rates for your preferred flights via Alaska Airlines Atmos Rewards. It often has much better pricing on AA flights, though it’s not guaranteed.

If you don’t have them, you can earn Alaska points by using an Alaska Airlines credit card, shopping through the Atmos Rewards shopping portal, dining at restaurants that participate in Atmos Rewards Dining, flying with Alaska’s Oneworld partners, and more. You can also transfer points from Bilt Rewards at a 1:1 ratio or Marriott Bonvoy at a 3:1 ratio.

Final Thoughts

American Airlines has begun flying several new and exciting European routes, giving travelers more options than ever before for reaching the continent for coveted summer trips. All of the flights starting today operate seasonally, so you’ll have to act fairly quickly if you want to hop on board.
