The island of Bimini in the Bahamas is American Airlines’ newest destination. On February 14, 2026, American Airlines launched the first direct service from Miami International Airport (MIA) to Bimini in 8 years, and we were there to partake in the festivities. This new flight is not only the carrier’s shortest route, but it’s also the only nonstop flight from the U.S. to Bimini.

This tropical paradise, located just 63 miles off Florida’s coast, is the closest Bahamian island to the U.S. With a quick flight time of just over 18 minutes, this is one of the shortest international flights you can take. This new route will increase accessibility not only between Bimini and South Florida, but also between Bimini and the 80+ U.S. and Canadian destinations American Airlines services from Miami.

American Airlines’ New Flight to Bimini, Bahamas

American Airlines just launched the only nonstop service to Bimini from the U.S. These new flights will operate between Miami International Airport (MIA) and Bimini Airport (BIM) on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays on an Embraer 175 aircraft.

While the flight is scheduled for about 50 minutes, the actual flight time is less than 20. The inaugural flight on February 14 touched down in Bimini just 18 minutes after taking off from Miami.

Even though Bimini is the closest Bahamian island to the U.S., it has historically been difficult to access. Before this new flight, the only way to access Bimini from the U.S. was by a ferry from Fort Lauderdale’s Port Everglades, by flying on a seaplane or private charter, or by booking a cruise that stopped in Bimini.

Bottom Line:

American Airlines just launched flights to Bimini (BIM), its seventh destination in the Bahamas. It’s the only airline to service this small island from the U.S.

Save Big on Points When Booking Bimini to Miami

Prices for this new Miami to Bimini flight booked directly through American Airlines start at around $400 or 20,000 miles (plus taxes and fees) for a round-trip economy ticket. However, there’s a way to book that will cost you much less.

Alaska Airlines and American Airlines are both part of the Oneworld alliance, and you can book flights through either program. Alaska often offers great deals using Atmos Rewards points, and this is one of those times. Instead of paying 20,000 American Airlines AAdvantage miles (plus taxes and fees), you could book the exact same flight through Alaska for just 9,000 Atmos Rewards points (plus taxes and fees).

Why Bimini?

American has seen significant growth in Bahamas-bound flights, with 30 daily flights to the islands during peak travel season (more than any other U.S. carrier). With the addition of this new Bimini flight, American Airlines now flies to 7 destinations in the Bahamas — other destinations include Eleuthera (ELH), Freeport (FPO), Georgetown (GGT), Governor’s Harbour (GBH), Marsh Harbour (MHH), and Nassau (NAS).

This new route on American opens up this small island to over 80 destinations in North America via connections in Miami. A popular spot for boaters, Bimini also offers white sand beaches, turquoise water that’s perfect for snorkeling or scuba diving, and a laid-back lifestyle where a golf cart is all you need to get around.

Hot Tip:

American is the only U.S. airline that serves Bimini (BIM), Freeport (FPO), and Governor’s Harbour (GHB).
