American Airlines is showing its dedication to keeping smaller, regional airports connected with its latest new route announcement to Des Moines.
This summer, the capital city of Iowa is getting a new nonstop route to New York’s LaGuardia airport.
Here are the details.
American’s Once-daily Service Coming Soon
American’s new route between Des Moines and New York’s LaGuardia will operate with the following schedule:
- Depart Des Moines (DSM) 6:30 a.m. — Arrive New York (LGA) 10:10 a.m.
- Depart New York (LGA) 6 p.m. — Arrive Des Moines (DSM) 8:10 p.m.
Until American inaugurates service in June, Delta will be the only other airline offering nonstop service between New York’s LaGuardia and the heart of Iowa.
Adding to the incumbent Delta service and Allegiant’s nonstop from Newark (EWR), American’s new route will become the third nonstop service to the New York city area from Des Moines.
“Connectivity is essential for a vibrant economy; this new service demonstrates the growing demand for leisure and business air service in Central Iowa,” said Kevin Foley, executive director at Des Moines Airport Authority.
Hot Tip: If you’re a frequent American Airlines flyer, then we recommend considering a co-branded American Airlines credit card such as the Citi®/AAdvantage® Executive World Elite Mastercard®. You’ll benefit from perks such as Admirals Club access, priority boarding, and bonus miles earning.
American will deploy a Republic Airways-operated, American Eagle Embraer E175 on the route with 76 seats.
The regional jet comprises domestic first class up front where there are 12 seats in a 1-2 configuration, while the 64 economy seats are configured in a 2-2 layout with 20 Main Cabin Extra seats.
Final Thoughts
American’s first New York to Des Moines flight will take to the skies on June 1, 2023 — and it’s great to see the carrier providing expanded service to regional destinations like Des Moines.
