We’re in the last days of summer 2025, but American Airlines is already thinking a year ahead.

The airline announced on August 7 that it would be offering 6 new routes to Europe and expanding service to South America. Plus, American will offer more premium options to Japan in the summer of 2026.

Here’s what to know.

American’s Big Plans For Summer 2026

American Airlines will add new routes to several cities in Europe and South America next summer, including Athens (ATH), Buenos Aires (EZE), Milan (MXP), and Prague (PRG). The airline will add flights from its primary hubs, including Dallas (DFW), Miami (MIA), and Philadelphia (PHL).

Additionally, the airline will offer the only nonstop service from the United States to Budapest (BUD).

American said the new routes were the result of feedback from customers who wanted to travel to Europe during the summer.

“Customers continue to tell us that Europe is where they want to go each summer, and these new routes make it even easier to cross the Atlantic in 2026,” said Brian Znotins, senior vice president of network and schedule planning.

Here’s a look at the routes and their frequencies:

American will fly Boeing 787-8 on all routes, except for the DFW-ZRH flight, which will use the Boeing 777-200.

Bottom Line:

American also announced that it would increase premium seating capacity by more than 45% from its Dallas and Los Angeles hubs to Tokyo (HND) next summer. The airline will fly daily Boeing 777-300 service from Dallas and twice-daily Boeing 777-200 service from Los Angeles (LAX) beginning March 29, 2026.

How To Book

American’s new routes don’t go on sale until August 11, 2025, so unfortunately, we’re unable to see how much tickets cost with cash or AAdvantage miles. When they become available, you can book at AA.com or through the airline’s mobile app.

When flights do become available, we recommend using a credit card that will reward you for spending with American or a card that rewards you for travel purchases. This will offset your spending through points or cash-back rewards.

Final Thoughts

American is adding some exciting new routes to Europe and South America for summer 2026, including some of the most sought-after destinations for Americans, such as Athens and Milan.

We’re curious to see what pricing looks like for these new flights once it goes live.
