American Airlines’ premium restaurant at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is finally coming back.

The space, formerly known as Flagship First Dining, hasn’t opened its doors since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. When it returns next week, more travelers than before will be eligible to get inside.

Here’s what you need to know.

LAX Flagship Dining Returning After a 6-Year Closure

American Airlines will reopen Flagship Dining inside its Flagship Lounge at LAX next week. The news was first reported by View From the Wing and confirmed by an AA spokesperson.

The premium dining room closed in March 2020 and has remained shuttered for more than 6 years. The space is tucked inside the Flagship Lounge in Terminal 4, located near gate 40.

Inside, the space feels less like an airport lounge and more like a proper restaurant with 59 seats. There are private tables and booths, a full cocktail bar, a cloakroom for jackets and bags, and windows that overlook the tarmac. This will make it one of the most premium lounge options at LAX.

LAX is the third location to open with AA’s updated concept. The airline dropped “First” from its name and opened dining rooms at Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) and Miami (MIA) for eligible business class passengers as of September 15, 2026.

The change makes sense. American is pulling true (international) first class from its Boeing 777-300ERs and replacing its 3-cabin Airbus A321Ts, so far fewer people would have qualified under the old rules.

What Flagship Dining Offers and How To Get In

Flagship Dining is a full-service, à la carte restaurant. You sit down and order from a menu instead of jockeying for space with other passengers at a crowded buffet.

American has introduced a new menu built around seasonal dishes tied to each of its hubs. Guests will find offerings such as a roasted purple cauliflower steak, a Texas pear and burrata salad, mesquite grilled beef, a “California artisan board,” churro bread pudding, and the Flagship burger. There’s also a new pairing of KHK Hillside cabernet sauvignon with K+M Extravirgin chocolates.

The following passengers have access to the Flagship Dining space:

  • Flagship Business and Flagship Business Plus passengers flying on qualifying long-haul international, premium transcontinental, and Flagship Hawaii itineraries. Flagship flights between LAX and New York (JFK) qualify. The flight must be marketed and operated by AA for these passengers to gain access, and they can’t bring any guests.
  • Guests flying in first class on Oneworld partner airlines.
  • AAdvantage Executive Platinum and Platinum Pro elite members who buy a Flagship Dining pass with their AAdvantage miles. Access costs 20,000 miles for Executive Platinum members and 25,000 miles for Platinum Pro members. The entry pass covers the member plus immediate family members or up to 2 guests, provided they’re traveling on an eligible same-day AA or Oneworld flight, even in economy. Flagship Lounge access is included.

There are limits to access, however. A regular domestic first class ticket won’t get you in. You also can’t access Flagship Dining just because you have AAdvantage or Oneworld elite status; these members still need to be on a qualifying itinerary to get in.

Hot Tip:

Seating at Flagship Dining is first-come, first-served. If the room is full, you’ll be added to an electronic waitlist, so check in with the host as soon as you arrive in the lounge, especially if you’re arriving around dinner time.

Final Thoughts

Flagship Dining at LAX is finally reopening its doors after more than 6 years. That’s good news in itself, and many more passengers will now have access.

The trade-off is that the space won’t feel as exclusive as it did when only a handful of first class passengers had access.

Still, a proper sit-down meal included with a Flagship Business ticket is a great perk.
