Spring has sprung, but American Airlines is already thinking about winter. The airline just announced several new routes to warm-weather destinations in the Caribbean and Mexico, plus expanded service to Hawaii. These routes all start in time for winter.

Here’s what you need to know.

Beat the Cold With American’s New Routes

American Airlines will launch 5 new routes to Cancun, Mexico (CUN) and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic (PUJ) this winter, with the first flights kicking off in early November. These routes will be operated by Boeing 737 aircraft.

Here’s a look at these new routes and their frequencies:

All told, American says it will offer nearly 300 peak daily departures to destinations across Mexico, the Caribbean, and Latin America from the U.S.

These are some pretty interesting, though exciting, routes. For instance, American will be the only airline to offer nonstop flights between Oklahoma City (OKC) and Cancun. In fact, this will be the only international flight out of OKC.

The Raleigh (RDU) to Punta Cana route is also pretty exciting. Low-cost Avelo Airlines recently started flights between the 2 destinations, but that seasonal service ends in the summer. The American service, which starts in December, should be welcome news for travelers who want to escape the cold this winter.

Bottom Line:

Unfortunately, none of these routes are available on aa.com yet. You can book your flights with cash or American AAdvantage miles once they are.

American Expands Hawaii Service

Hawaii is a huge market for American, so it makes sense that we’ll see increased service to the state later this year.

American will resume flights from Dallas (DFW) to Kona (KOA) on November 20, 2025. The airline will use its Boeing 787-8 on this route. This will complement the previously announced Chicago (ORD) to Honolulu (HNL) route starting this fall.

Additionally, American will add a second daily service from DFW to Kahului, Maui (OGG). That flight launches on November 20, 2025. American will use 2 aircraft types on the route: the Boeing 777-200 and Boeing 787-8.

Final Thoughts

American Airlines is making it easy to escape the cold this winter with exciting new routes to Mexico and the Dominican Republic. Plus, expanded service is coming to Hawaii later this year.

We’ll keep an eye on these routes and provide updates when we know more about pricing and award availability.
