American Airlines is growing its domestic route network from the nation’s capital.

From June 1, 2023, American will launch 2 new services from its hub at Washington, D.C. (DCA) and connect the regional airports of Cedar Rapids (CID) and Madison (MSN).

“American is excited to connect Cedar Rapids and Madison with Washington D.C. next summer,” an American Airlines representative shared with Upgraded Points. “We’re eager to offer customers more ways to experience all that Cedar Rapids and Madison have to offer and provide local residents with additional access to American’s global network.”

Here’s everything you need to know about American’s new routes.

American Connects DCA With Cedar Rapids And Madison

American is building out its route network from one of its most important domestic U.S. hubs.

From June 1, 2023, both new services to Cedar Rapids and Madison will operate on a daily basis with the following schedules:

  • Depart Washington, D.C. (DCA) 8:30 a.m. — Arrive Cedar Rapids (CID) 10:05 a.m.
  • Depart Cedar Rapids (DCA) 10:40 a.m. — Arrive Washington, D.C. (DCA) 1:55 p.m.
  • Depart Washington, D.C. (DCA) 8:30 a.m. — Arrive Madison (MSN) 9:42 a.m.
  • Depart Madison (MSN) 10:15 a.m. — Arrive Washington, D.C. (DCA) 1:05 p.m.

American’s new service to Cedar Rapids will herald the only nonstop service from the Iowan city to not only the U.S. capital, but the entire East Coast.

While Madison is already very well-connected to the East Coast with nonstop services to New York (LGA), Newark (EWR), and Philadelphia (PHL), including a nonstop Delta service to Washington, D.C., American’s new service will provide much-needed competition as well as connection possibilities through American’s DCA hub.

Eligilbe passengers flying on the new routes will be able to enjoy American’s freshest new Admiral’s Club which opened its doors at DCA in October 2022.

The routes will be operated by American’s fleet of smaller, regional Canadair RJ 900 jets. They comprise 9 reclining first class and 67 regular economy seats.

You can expect to find return fares between Washington, D.C. and Madison from $398 and between Washington, D.C. and Cedar Rapids from $400, though you can also redeem American Airlines AAdvantage miles.

Final Thoughts

Starting in summer 2023, the small cities of Cedar Rapids and Madison will be getting new nonstop services to the nation’s capital.

The introduction of new regional services in this way will not only provide great new travel opportunities, but it is a sign of continued post-pandemic recovery.
