With football season just around the corner, American Express and Bread have launched the NFL Extra Points American Express® Credit Card.

This card has been around for a while, but has now switched from Visa to the American Express network.

With no annual fee, NFL-specific perks, and a $100 welcome bonus offer, does this card make sense for sports fans?

Let’s take a look at the details.

NFL Extra Points Card Launches on Amex Network

American Express just announced a new card to its lineup, the NFL Extra Points card.

The NFL Extra Points card has no annual fee and currently has a welcome offer of $100 cash back after spending $500 outside of NFL purchases within the first 90 days of account opening. The welcome offer will be added as a statement credit.

For benefits, the card offers:

  • 3% back in rewards on NFL and NFL team purchases
  • 2% back in rewards on grocery store, food delivery, restaurant, gym, and sporting goods store purchases
  • 1% back in rewards on all other purchases
  • 25% off at NFLshop.com
  • Access exclusive NFL experiences, tickets, memorabilia , and events throughout the season
  • Special financing on NFL ticket purchases over $250 at NFL team ticket offices, Ticketmaster,  SeatGeek , or Sports Illustrated Tickets (terms apply)

Rewards can be redeemed for cash back, NFL tickets, merchandise, gift cards, or exclusive experiences.

Hot Tip:

In addition to the NFL-specific benefits, cardholders will have access to American Express Network benefits, including Amex Experiences and Amex Offers.

Is the NFL Extra Points Card Worth It?

For big football fans spending a lot on tickets and gear, this card has some appeal.

3% back and a 25% discount at NFLshop.com could represent some real value, but outside of that, this card doesn’t really compete with other cards on the market.

While 2% back at grocery stores and restaurants is solid, there are many other no-annual-fee cards that offer that (or more) with fewer category restrictions and better welcome offers.

Final Thoughts

The NFL Extra Points card just joined the American Express network, but it likely isnt a good choice for travelers looking to maximize their everyday spending.

However, big football fans who spend a lot on NFL team merchandise and team experiences could find some solid value with this card thanks to the 3% cash-back and 25% discount at NFLshop.com.

That being said, a general travel rewards or cash-back card will often outperform this card for day-to-day spending.
