Startup low-cost carrier Avelo Airlines has been on an expansion tear lately, and now it has more growth plans to share.
This spring, the airline will add nonstop flights between Charlottesville, Virginia (CHO) and Orlando (MCO).
“Avelo will provide the CHO community direct nonstop access to one of the most popular leisure destinations in the world,” said Don Long, Chairman of the Charlottesville Albemarle Airport Authority. “With an operating strategy that is focused on convenient airports and low fares, the CHO community and Avelo will get along just great.”
Let’s take a look at all the details of this new route.
Avelo Enters Charlottesville
Beginning May 3, 2023, Avelo Airlines will start nonstop flights between Charlottesville and Orlando, one of the most popular destinations in the country. It will be the only carrier to serve the state of Florida nonstop from Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport.
Flights will operate 2 times per week — on Mondays and Fridays — according to the following schedule:
Avelo has been consistently growing since it launched operations in 2021. It now has operational bases in 5 cities: Burbank (BUR), New Haven (HNV), Orlando (MCO), Raleigh-Durham (RDU), and Wilmington, Delaware (ILG), having very recently inaugurated its base in Raleigh-Durham.
Charlottesville will be Avelo’s 11th destination served from Orlando. At the time of the airline’s inaugural MCO-CHO service, it will serve the following destinations from the Florida airport:
Binghamton, New York (BGM)
Charlottesville, Virginia (CHO)
Dayton, Ohio (DAY)
Dubuque, Iowa (DBQ)
Kalamazoo/Battle Creek, Michigan (AZO)
Lansing, Michigan (LAN)
New Haven, Connecticut (HVN)
Newport News, Virginia (PHF)
Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina (RDU)
Wilmington, Delaware (ILG)
Wilmington, North Carolina (ILM)
Bottom Line: Avelo’s primary strategy is to connect smaller, underserved airports with popular destinations across the country to provide travelers with more affordable options for air travel. The strategy seems to be working so far, judging by the carrier’s sustained expansion.
Final Thoughts
Avelo is adding yet another city to its expanding route map. Travelers in the Charlottesville area should be excited to receive new air service to one of the nation’s most popular destinations — after all, it’s pretty hard to argue with sub-$50 fares.
We’re looking forward to seeing what Avelo decides to do next with its route map!
