Low-cost Avelo Airlines is back with a new route that connects the Midwest and East Coast. The airline has begun nonstop flights between Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) and Connecticut’s Tweed New Haven Airport (HVN).

Here’s what you need to know.

Avelo Kicks Off DTW Expansion

Avelo Airlines has started a new, nonstop service between Detroit (DTW) and Tweed New Haven Airport (HVN). The route operates 2x weekly on Mondays and Fridays on Avelo’s Boeing Next Generation (NG) 737 aircraft. Avelo now offers the only nonstop flights between the 2 cities.

The news comes on the heels of Avelo announcing 2 other nonstop routes from Detroit. Back in March, the airline said it would start flights to Wilmington (ILM) and Charlotte (USA) in June.

“There has never been a more affordable, convenient and reliable way for Motor City travelers to enjoy the best of Southern Connecticut, New England and New York,” CEO Andrew Levy said. “At the same time, this new service will make it easier than ever for Connecticut travelers to enjoy everything Detroit has to offer.”

Booking Avelo’s New Flights to Detroit

The newest Avelo routes are available at AveloAir.com. Avelo is a budget airline and keeps costs low by charging for ancillary services like baggage and seat selection.

Avelo doesn’t have a rewards program or a co-branded credit card. However, that’s changing soon. The budget airline plans to introduce a loyalty program and its own credit card in the future, according to a report by The New Haven Register.

In the meantime, you’ll want to book your ticket with a card that rewards you for travel purchases. Some of our favorites include the Platinum Card® from American Express, Chase Sapphire Reserve®, and Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card.

Final Thoughts

Avelo has started an exciting new route between Detroit and New Haven, offering the only direct connection between the cities. The airline is also running a sweet promo with complimentary ground transportation.
