Avelo is adding a new airport to its route map.

On July 12, the ultra-low-cost airline will fly from New Haven (HVN) to Washington, D.C. (IAD) for the first time.

“We are pleased to welcome Avelo Airlines, our 43rd airline partner to Washington-Dulles,” said Paul Bobson, vice president for airline business development at Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority.

Here are the details of the new service to the nation’s capital.

Fly Between New Haven and Washington, D.C.

Avelo is back doing what it does best: adding flights on underserved routes, such as this new service from New Haven to Washington-Dulles (IAD). The route complements the service it already operates between New Haven and Baltimore (BWI), which Avelo also uniquely operates.

The new service will operate on Mondays and Fridays with the following schedule:

  • Depart New Haven (HVN) 5 p.m. — Arrive Washington-Dulles (IAD) 6:15 p.m.
  • Depart Washington-Dulles (IAD) 7 p.m. — Arrive New Haven (HVN) 8:15 p.m.

The addition of Washington-Dulles brings the total number of destinations served from the airline’s first base in New Haven to a whopping 25 — not bad for an airline that just turned 3 years old.

As the only airline operating out of New Haven, Avelo provides much-needed connectivity to other parts of the U.S. for those living in and around New Haven and the wider state of Connecticut. Furthermore, all of Avelo flights are operated by the airline’s fleet of Boeing 737 aircraft.

“Getting to Southern Connecticut and everything the greater New England and New York regions have to offer will now be easier than ever,” said Andrew Levy, found and CEO at Avelo. “This exclusive nonstop service also makes exploring the abundance of experiences our nation’s capital has to offer a fast and seamless journey for Connecticut visitors.”

For a limited time only, Avelo is offering one-way fares on the new route from just $43!

Hot Tip:

Avelo is an ultra-low-cost airline, which means you’ll have to pay extra for seat selection (starting at $11) and baggage (both carry-on and checked bags start at $40 one-way).

Final Thoughts

It’s exciting to see Avelo debut a new service to a popular domestic destination, such as Washington, D.C. This new route is just 1 of many it will launch amid the busy summer season.
