There’s another IHG option for those traveling to New York City. However, instead of a central Manhattan location, this new IHG property is in the Dyker Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn. It’s also the first avid Hotel — an IHG brand comprised of midscale and affordable properties — to open in New York.

Here’s what you should know about the hotel.

Avid Hotel Brooklyn — Dyker Heights

On September 20, 2023, IHG announced the opening of avid Hotel Brooklyn — Dyker Heights, a 76-room property in a residential neighborhood of New York City. While the property lacks much in the way of premium amenities, guests can still expect blackout shades and sound-reducing features in all rooms, free breakfast (including grab-and-go items), and freshly ground coffee at all times of the day.

The hotel is located about 25 minutes from Midtown Manhattan and is particularly convenient for those visiting nearby attractions like Coney Island or for guests traveling deeper into Brooklyn.

“The opening of avid hotel Brooklyn – Dyker Heights demonstrates our brand’s focus on growing our presence in the Americas region,” said Karen Gilbride, VP of avid Hotels, Atwell Suites & Garner. “We created this brand to meet the needs of our guests looking for the basics done exceptionally well at a fair price and in convenient locations, so it made sense for us to open a property in one of the most visited states and cities of the world.”

How To Book

You’ll be able to use IHG One Rewards points for a stay at avid hotel Brooklyn — Dyker Heights. Award rates start at around 24,000 points per night for dates this November. Meanwhile, if you’d rather pay in cash, rates start at around $120 per night. Overall, that’s in line with our valuation of IHG One Rewards points at around 0.5 cents per point.

If you need more points, you’re in luck, as it’s relatively easy to earn IHG One Rewards pointsIHG offers 3 credit cards — 2 personal and 1 business — all issued by Chase. You can also transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards or Bilt Rewards points to IHG One Rewards at a 1:1 ratio.

Final Thoughts

With more than 60 hotels now open across the U.S., Mexico, and Canada since launching 5 years ago — and another 146 in the pipeline — avid is clearly a brand that IHG is investing in. This New York location adds to the midscale brand’s footprint and provides travelers with an affordable hotel option.
