Azores Airlines, the Portuguese carrier formerly known as SATA Airlines, has introduced 6 new fare classes to give passengers more choice when it comes to their trips to the Azores Islands and destinations further afield in Europe.

Here’s what you should know about this change.

The New Fare Classes

Azores Airlines has 6 new fares spread across 2 classes of service: Economy and Comfort, the latter of which is the airline’s closest to a business class offering.

Dynamic pricing will take effect, but passengers can look forward to last-minute promotions to save some money on their tickets. Fares previously available to Azores residents and students will remain the same as they were before these changes:

  • Economy Simple: Passengers are only allowed hand luggage.
  • Economy Basic: Passengers can check luggage or sports equipment.
  • Economy Flex: Passengers can check luggage, have the flexibility to make changes to their tickets, and choose their seats.
  • Economy Top: Passengers enjoy everything from Economy Flex, as well as refunds on tickets, extra legroom seat selection, and priority check-in, baggage, and boarding.
  • Comfort Light: Passengers can enjoy business class seats but aren’t allowed to make changes to their ticket or request a refund.
  • Comfort Plus: Passengers can expect free ticket changes, lounge access, check-in, baggage and boarding priority, and more.

It’s worth mentioning that there aren’t lie-flat seats in business class on Azores Airlines. With a fleet of 8 narrowbody Airbus aircraft, Azores’ Comfort Light and Comfort Plus seats are closer to domestic first class seats that simply recline in a 2-2 configuration.

Hot Tip: You can fly Azores Airlines to the Azores and beyond, including Porto, Lisbon, and Cape Verde.

The Azores Islands — located almost 900 miles west of Lisbon in the Atlantic Ocean — are becoming increasingly popular with tourists from the United States. As such, demand for air service to and from the archipelago has increased accordingly.

Azores Airlines currently flies between 3 U.S. cities and the Azores, and in November of 2022, the airline started nonstop flights between New York (JFK) and Madeira. The carrier also operates nonstop routes to Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) and Oakland International Airport (OAK) several times per week.

Final Thoughts

Economy class passengers now have more options to choose from regarding their flexibility and luggage needs with Azores Airlines. Business class passengers will also receive more perks than before including seat selection and priority boarding that both classes didn’t offer before.
