BermudAir is making one of the most aggressive route expansions we’ve seen from a small airline in recent years.

The Bermuda-based carrier announced plans to launch 13 new routes this winter, adding service to Turks and Caicos, Belize, Anguilla, and Guatemala City. What’s especially interesting is that many of these flights won’t touch Bermuda at all, showing that the airline wants to grow beyond its original plan to connect Bermuda with cities across North America.

Let’s take a look at the details.

BermudAir Adds 13 Routes in the Caribbean and Central America

BermudAir is expanding beyond Bermuda this winter, announcing a series of new routes from several U.S. cities to destinations across the Caribbean and Central America.

The expansion includes:

  • 6 new routes to Turks and Caicos (PLS)
  • 5 new routes to Belize (BZE)
  • 1 new route to Anguilla (AXA)
  • 1 new route to Guatemala City (GUA)
  • The return of nonstop service between Fort Lauderdale (FLL) and Bermuda (BDA)

What makes this announcement very interesting is that many of the new routes won’t touch Bermuda at all. Instead, BermudAir is connecting U.S. cities directly to popular vacation destinations throughout the Caribbean and Central America, highlighting the airline’s growing presence beyond Bermuda.

All flights will be operated using BermudAir’s Embraer E190 aircraft. The airline also confirmed it will move its Orlando-area operations from Orlando International Airport (MCO) to Orlando Sanford International Airport (SFB) this winter.

This expansion also signals that BermudAir is no longer content being just a Bermuda airline. With new flights connecting U.S. cities directly to destinations like Belize, Turks and Caicos, Anguilla, and Guatemala City, the carrier is making a clear effort to become a larger player in the Caribbean and Central American leisure travel market.

Hot Tip:

BermudAir says it will offer the only nonstop service to Belize from Boston (BOS), Raleigh-Durham (RDU), Fort Lauderdale, Orlando Sanford (SFB), and St. Petersburg/Tampa (PIE), as well as the only nonstop flights to Turks and Caicos from Raleigh-Durham, Fort Lauderdale, and St. Petersburg/Tampa.

Final Thoughts

BermudAir’s latest expansion is an exciting one, offering travelers more nonstop options between the U.S., the Caribbean, and Central America while introducing new competition on several routes.

More choices are almost always a good thing for travelers, though it’ll be intriguing to see how these new routes perform as the young airline continues expanding well beyond its Bermuda roots.
