Newly profitable and rapidly growing Breeze Airways clearly has no plans of slowing down.

Utah-based Breeze announced that it will open its 11th crew base this summer at Ohio’s Akron-Canton Airport.

“The Akron-Canton community continues to show high demand for Breeze’s premium, convenient service, so establishing a base in the community is a natural fit,” said David Neeleman, Breeze Airways’ founder and CEO.

Let’s take a look at everything you should know about Breeze’s latest move.

Breeze Opening Crew Base in Akron-Canton

If you’re finding it hard to keep up with Breeze Airways, we can’t blame you. The carrier has been the opposite of quiet since it launched in 2021, adding routes and new cities to its network at a breakneck pace. And last quarter, it turned a profit for the first time since it started flying, signaling that more growth is coming.

Its latest move is opening its 11th crew base, this time at Akron-Canton Airport (CAK) in Ohio. Akron-Canton joins the following cities where the airline has bases:

The opening of the Akron-Canton base comes about 4 years after the airline began flying to the airport, and it should create more than 60 jobs for pilots, flight attendants, and maintenance personnel over the next 3 years.

Currently, Breeze offers year-round flights from Akron-Canton to the following cities: Charleston, Las Vegas (LAS), Raleigh-Durham (RDU), Sarasota (SRQ), and Tampa. Seasonally, the airline offers flights to Fort Myers, Los Angeles (LAX), Myrtle Beach (MYR), and Norfolk.

While Breeze is a low-cost carrier, it has some of the feeling of a full-service airline. It offers premium seating and Wi-Fi across its fleet, which is composed entirely of new Airbus A220-300 aircraft. However, you will have to pay for add-ons like seat assignments, baggage, and more.

Hot Tip:

Having and using Breeze’s co-branded credit card only makes sense if you fly frequently with the airline. You’ll earn up to 10x points per $1 spent on Breeze purchases and 2x points on eligible grocery store and restaurant purchases and food and beverages on Breeze flights.

Final Thoughts

Breeze Airways keeps growing, with its latest move being a plan to open a base in Akron-Canton, Ohio. This should be a welcome boost to the local economy, providing jobs and a healthy injection of economic activity. Plus, it signals that the city could benefit from further route additions from Breeze in the not-so-distant future.

It’s hard to predict exactly what the airline’s next move will be, but we’d be comfortable betting that it won’t wait too long before we find out.
