British Airways is launching several new Avios-only flights for Executive Club members, where the airline will be operating a select number of flights that will only be bookable with the airline’s frequent flyer currency, Avios. It’s a unique marketing play to try and create engagement with the program, and you might find it worthwhile to hop on one of these flights.
Avios-only Flights
With this new promotion, you won’t be able to purchase a seat on one of these flights using cash. Instead, you’ll only be able to book using Avios and a very small cash copay.
The first Avios-only flight will be on November 3, 2023, and will depart from London Gatwick (LGW) and arrive into Sharm El Sheikh (SSH) in Egypt. The economy cabin will sell for as little as £1 and 27,500 Avios per person, while the Club Europe business class cabin will sell for as little as £1 and 48,500 Avios.
This is actually a new route for British Airways, and it will be flown by its regional subsidiary, BA Euroflyer. Sharm El Sheikh is a very popular tourist beach destination, with thousands of Europeans flocking there throughout the busy season.
The next reward-only flight will be from London Heathrow (LHR) to Geneva (GVA) in Switzerland, operating on the following dates:
February 10, 2024
February 17, 2024
February 24, 2024
March 2, 2024
These flights will cost £1 and 18,500 Avios per person in the economy class cabin and £1 and 30,000 Avios in Club Europe.
Hot Tip:
While every seat will be available with Avios, there’s obviously only a limited amount of seats on board, so if you’re interested in trying one of these flights, book as soon as you can.
One of the nice things about the British Airways Executive Club program is that you can use fewer Avios if you pay a higher cash copay. For example, on the Geneva flight, you can pay as few as 10,500 Avios if you wanted to pay the higher £125 co-pay. This is a great way to save on Avios if you don’t have enough in your account.
Final Thoughts
These new reward-only flights provide a great way to redeem Avios to 2 popular destinations, with more to come over the next year. Every seat on the plane will be available to book with Avios, unlike most flights where there are only 10 to 14 seats released.
