Hilton has quietly rolled out a new feature that lets you buy Honors points while booking your stay online, similar to a tool IHG has offered for years.

But is it actually a good deal? It depends on your travel plans and how you use your points.

Here’s what you need to know before trying out this new feature.

How It Works

Hilton’s been adding more upsell options during the booking process lately, including confirmed late checkout, valet parking, and now, the ability to top off your points before you complete your reservation.

Right now, this feature looks to be available only at certain U.S. properties, and it seems tied to hotels using Hilton’s new booking system, PEP (which is replacing OnQ). So if you don’t see the option just yet, don’t stress — it likely just hasn’t rolled out to that specific hotel.

While selecting your rate during the booking process, you may see a box offering to add between 2,000 and 5,000 points to your reservation. The number of points available to purchase seems to be fixed per booking and doesn’t change based on your length of stay.

The cost? 0.5 cents per point, which is the exact value we assign to Hilton Honors points. In other words, you’re paying fair value, though the price could vary slightly depending on the property and timing.

That’s also the same price Hilton offers during its regular points sales — like the current buying points promo through July 24, 2025, through which you can buy Hilton points with a 100% bonus. But unlike those promotions, this checkout option lets you buy small amounts instantly, without the usual purchase minimums.

Is It Worth It?

Buying a few extra Hilton points at the checkout screen can be a good deal, especially since they’re priced at 0.5 cents apiece, right in line with how we value Hilton Honors points.

Since you can only purchase a small number (usually between 2,000 and 5,000), this option is best for travelers who just need to top off their accounts to redeem Hilton Honors points for a stay.

Keep in mind, these points aren’t elite-qualifying, so unlike IHG’s version of this feature, they won’t help you earn or maintain status.

Hot Tip:

Need to top off your Hilton Honors account? You can also transfer points from American Express Membership Rewards and Bilt Rewards. Amex points transfer at a 1:2 ratio (1,000 Amex points = 2,000 Hilton points), while Bilt Rewards points transfer at a 1:1 ratio. Just note that Amex points are generally more valuable, so it’s best to transfer only when you’re close to a redemption.

Final Thoughts

While this new Hilton booking feature won’t be useful for everyone, it’s a convenient option if you’re just a few thousand points short of a redemption. With points priced at Hilton’s typical sale rate of 0.5 cents each, it’s a fair-value way to top off your account without committing to a larger purchase.

Just keep in mind that this option isn’t widely available yet, and points don’t count toward elite status. Still, it’s a nice perk to be aware of — especially when you’re close to booking that next free night.
