Iberia is offering a rare opportunity to buy Avios with a bonus, making it a perfect time to increase your Avios balance. Then, you can redeem these rewards for great value on a number of airlines — for less.

Let’s take a look at the details.

Buy Iberia Avios Promotion Details

You can buy Iberia Avios with a 50% bonus through August 8, 2025. Purchases are available here.

This is a flat offer, meaning you’ll get the same 50% bonus no matter how many Avios you buy:

  • Receive a 50% bonus when purchasing anywhere between 2,000 and 100,000 Avios.

Before pulling out your wallet, there are a few terms you should know:

  • The maximum number of Avios you can receive from this promotion is 150,000 Avios, and bonus points do not count toward the annual maximum.
  • Members can purchase up to 200,000 Avios in a calendar year.
  • You must have at least 1 Avios in your Iberia Club Avios account to purchase Avios. If your account is empty, you can transfer a small amount of Chase Ultimate Rewards points, as those transfers are immediate. Alternatively, you could move points from any other Avios-earning account, because those also happen immediately. American Express Membership Rewards is an Iberia transfer partner, too, but those transfers could take up to several days to complete.

Is It Worth It?

We don’t recommend buying points simply because you can, as programs constantly devalue them, and it’s never good to have a large chunk of airline miles sitting in an account for long periods of time with no specific purpose.

However, there are times when purchasing points makes sense, such as finding a specific redemption that works with your travel plans and coincides with a sale on purchased points. Club Iberia Plus offers sales like this every so often, and if you can find a good use for the miles you purchase, you can score some great value.

If you were to maximize this bonus offer and purchase 100,000 Avios, you’d end up with 150,000 Avios for a total of $2,315. This results in a cost of 1.54 cents apiece, above our valuation of Avios at 1.25 cents each.

Using Iberia Avios, you can book Iberia’s business-class flights from the U.S. to Europe starting at 40,500 Avios per person each way. You’ll pay more Avios the farther you fly, however.

However, Iberia is part of the greater Avios program, which notably includes Aer Lingus, British Airways, Finnair, and Qatar Airways. You can easily transfer and combine any Avios you purchase into any of these accounts and then use their respective programs to book tickets at an excellent value.

For example, you can book a one-way flight in business class on Finnair’s excellent Airbus A350 between Seattle (SEA) and Helsinki (HEL) for just 62,500 Avios plus taxes and fees of $148.

Meanwhile, if you were to pay cash for that same flight, you’d need to fork over a staggering $5,066. Purchasing miles at the rate of 1.54 cents apiece means you’re using approximately $963 worth of miles to pay for a flight that retails for almost $5,100 — that’s a deal!

Final Thoughts

While Club Iberia Plus can be overlooked, the airline’s newest promotion offers the opportunity to buy Avios at a decent rate. The ability to combine and redeem Avios across various programs makes it easy to find value, making purchasing Avios worthwhile in the first place.
