Capital One has made some changes for select cardholders of the Capital One Quicksilver Cash Rewards Credit CardInformation collected independently. Not reviewed by Capital One. and the Capital One QuicksilverOne Cash Rewards Credit CardInformation collected independently. Not reviewed by Capital One., including updating the payment network they operate on and adding a new bonus category.

Here’s what you need to know about these changes and how they’ll affect how you use the cards.

Updates for Some, But Not All Quicksilver Cardholders

Capital One has emailed some cardholders of the Capital One Quicksilver card and Capital One QuicksilverOne card to notify them of a couple of changes to the products. A Capital One representative indicated that not all cardholders were notified, and the changes apply only to those who receive an email notification.

For those notified that their cards will be changing, the cards will first be moved from their current place in the Mastercard payment network to the Discover network. According to a Capital One representative, new cards will be mailed to these customers in May. We suspect most cardholders won’t notice a difference in how their cards operate, but some may miss the Mastercard network when the change takes effect.

Moving select Capital One Quicksilver cards and Capital One QuicksilverOne cards to the Discover network follows Capital One’s 2025 acquisition of Discover and comes after the company moved other card products to the Discover network since then.

Next, cardholders of the transitioned cards will receive a new bonus category: 3% cash-back at grocery stores and gas stations. This bonus category joins the cards’ 5% cash-back offering on hotels, rental cars, and vacation rentals purchased through Capital One Travel and 1.5% cash-back on all other purchases, with no cap. Customers who did not receive a notification will remain on the Mastercard network and will not have access to the new bonus category.

The Capital One Quicksilver card has a $0 annual fee, and the Capital One QuicksilverOne card has a $39 annual fee, and neither card charges foreign transaction fees. Cardholders can still take advantage of perks like price protection, extended warranty, access to Capital One Entertainment, and more, in addition to a straightforward earning structure.

Right now, the Capital One Quicksilver card is offering the following welcome bonus offer:

  • Earn a one-time $200 cash bonus after you spend $500 on purchases within 3 months from account opening.

The addition of the gas and grocery store bonus category for select cardholders makes these cards a more formidable competitor to others that offer similar bonus categories, such as the Blue Cash Everyday® Card from American Express and the Chase Freedom Unlimited®. The former offers 3% cash-back at U.S. supermarkets, U.S. gas stations, and on U.S. online retail purchases (on up to $6,000 per year in purchases), while the latter offers 3% cash-back on dining and drugstore purchases.

Final Thoughts

Select cardholders of the Capital One Quicksilver card and Capital One QuicksilverOne card will see their payment network move from Mastercard to Discover. While this may disappoint some keen cardholders, most shouldn’t notice a difference in day-to-day use of their card.

However, the addition of a 3% bonus category at grocery stores and gas stations is great news (for those eligible) and should elevate the value proposition of these cards.
