Here’s Why You Need To Apply for the Capital One Venture Card Today

Below, we’ll explain exactly why timing is essential when applying for and maximizing its benefits.

Exceptional Welcome Offer

Right now, the Capital One Venture card has a limited-time welcome offer where you can earn a $300 Capital One Travel stays credit and earn 75,000 bonus miles once you spend $4,000 within the first 3 months of account opening.

Thanks to the $300 stays credit and the high amount of bonus miles, the card feels almost comparable to the more premium Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card, which comes with a more flexible $300 travel credit and a similar welcome offer. However, the annual fee for the Capital One Venture X card is significantly higher, at $395.

Of course, the Capital One Venture X card does have additional perks, such as access to Capital One Lounges and a Priority Pass Select membership (among others), but if you compare the 2 cards, the Capital One Venture card is where you can really come out on top right now and get maximum value without a high annual fee.

We’re not sure how long this offer will stick around, so applying soon is the best plan.

It’s Easy To Offset the Annual Fee

The Capital One Venture card’s $95 annual fee is low, but because the limited-time welcome offer is so high, it’s easy to offset the yearly cost.

For example, the fee is $95, but you get $300 in Capital One stays. That means you’re already coming out on top by $205, and that’s not counting the other perks, like the 75,000-mile welcome offer bonus, the up-to-$120 credit for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck once every 4 years, or the $50 experience credit (plus other premium benefits on hotel and vacation rentals part of the Lifestyle Collection on Capital One Travel).

Let’s do the math. If you use all the credits the first year of your card membership, you’re getting $470 in value. We value Capital One miles at 1.8 cents per point, making the current 75,000-mile welcome offer worth $1,350.

If you add $470 and $1,350, that means you’re getting a minimum of $1,820 in value, and if we subtract the $95 annual fee, that’s $1,725.

The fact that you can get more than $1,725 in value from a card with a $95 annual fee is incredible. However, to get the most out of the card, apply before it changes.

You Can Earn Miles Quickly

It’s pretty impressive that you can earn 2x miles on all purchases, especially for a card that has a low $95 annual fee. This means you can build up those miles at a faster rate.

As we already mentioned, we think Capital One miles are worth 1.8 cents per point, so if you can get 2x on purchases like department stores, school fees, or pretty much anything you spend on, it’s easy to earn fast and have a valuable stash of points. Just spending the $4,000 to obtain the welcome offer bonus would earn you a minimum of 8,000 Capital One miles, which is already $144 in value, plus the additional $1,725 we mentioned above.

The card also earns 5x miles on hotels, vacation rentals, and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel, so if you spend extra when using your Capital One stays credit, you can earn even more miles on that purchase.

Capital One Miles Are Flexible and Simple To Use

We’ve already established that Capital One miles are valuable, but it’s not just about the cent-per-mile valuation, it’s also about their flexibility.

Capital One has over 20 hotel and airline transfer partners, some of which can offer well over 1.8 cents per point if you do your homework. Many partners transfer at a 1:1 ratio, though a few have different ratios. You can also book travel using your miles in Capital One Travel or use your miles in other ways, but you’d get the most out of them by transferring them.

In order to meet the spending threshold and get the welcome offer, you’d have to spend $4,000, which means you’d earn a minimum of 8,000 miles, plus the 75,000 miles.

There’s a lot you can do with 83,000 Capital One miles. Personally, I like to transfer Capital One miles to the British Airways Club at a 1:1 ratio and then, using Avios.com, convert them to Iberia Avios. Those 83,000 Iberia Avios are enough for 5 one-way, economy-class tickets between Madrid and Chicago (you can find them for 16,000 Avios each way during off-peak dates).

However, if you don’t have a large family or prefer premium travel, you could use the miles to fly the coveted Qsuites, Qatar Airways’ flagship business-class product.

Final Thoughts

Right now, the Capital One Venture card is offering consumers massive value, so plan to apply soon. When we look back through the card’s history, we see this offer is the best one since May 2022. Thanks to the addition of the $300 Capital One Travel credit for stays, you can really maximize savings when booking hotels or home rentals, as well as earn the miles, which you can later transfer to partners for top value.
