If you’ve been planning to pick up both the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card and Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card to earn multiple welcome bonuses, you’ll want to take note of a recent change. The issuer has updated its terms to combine the welcome bonus eligibility for both cards under a shared 48-month rule.

Here’s what you need to know.

Venture and Venture X Now Share a Single 48-Month Bonus Eligibility Window

This change matters because it alters how travelers may plan applications across Capital One’s popular Venture lineup.

Reports from Reddit and coverage from Doctor of Credit first highlighted that Capital One was beginning to treat the Capital One Venture card and Capital One Venture X card as part of the same welcome bonus family, meaning you may only earn a bonus on one of them every 48 months.

Importantly, this appears to apply only to the personal Venture cards — the Capital One Venture X Business CardInformation collected independently. Not reviewed by Capital One. does not currently fall under this shared language.

Since 2023, Capital One has required a 48-month wait between earning a bonus on the same card. The key update is that the Capital One Venture card and Capital One Venture X card are now grouped together.

Card applications now state:

“You are not eligible for this product if you have received a new cardmember bonus for the Capital One Venture card or the Capital One Venture X card in the past 48 months.”

In practice, here’s how the rule plays out:

  • If you earned the Capital One Venture card bonus within the last 48 months, you’re likely ineligible for the Capital One Venture X card bonus, and vice versa.
  • The 48-month countdown begins when your bonus posts, not when you opened or closed the card.
  • Product changes and downgrades do not trigger new bonuses and do not reset eligibility timing.

While enforcement has not been perfectly consistent — some cardholders still report receiving both bonuses despite the language — the updated terms suggest Capital One intends to standardize this rule going forward.

Hot Tip:

Before you apply for either card, you can search your rewards history to confirm the exact posting date of your last Venture-family welcome bonus. That date — not your account open/close date — is what determines when you’ll be eligible again. Setting a calendar reminder for your 48-month mark can help avoid missing out.

Final Thoughts

This update reinforces an ongoing trend across banks: issuers are tightening eligibility for welcome bonuses to limit abuse. For travelers who strategically open cards to access premium perks and large introductory offers, planning the timing of their applications becomes even more crucial.

If you currently hold or have recently closed a Capital One Venture card or Capital One Venture X card, be sure to check your bonus history before submitting a new application. Getting the timing right could be the difference between earning a valuable bonus and walking away empty-handed.
