Update: The offer mentioned below has expired and is no longer available.

The Chase Freedom Flex℠ is one of the most popular no-fee credit cards out there thanks to valuable benefits like its rotating quarterly bonus spending categories.

The Freedom Flex card’s latest promotion means that cardholders will now earn an extra 5% cash-back on up to $1,500 of purchases in 1 of the card’s bonus categories this holiday season.

Let’s take a closer look at the details of this offer.

Top-Spend Category Offer Details

From October 1, 2021, through December 31, 2021, you’ll earn an additional 5% cash-back in the eligible rewards category where you spend the most cash.

The 5% bonus is broken down into an additional 4% plus the 1% per dollar you usually get on all purchases.

This means the maximum potential cash-back would be 9% per dollar in the spending category you spend most on before the end of the promotional period.

There are a total of 9 categories that are eligible for the additional cash-back. Of the 9, travel (including transit), home improvement stores, and grocery stores (excluding Target and Walmart) are the 3 categories where you could likely most easily maximize this offer.

Other eligible categories include drugstores, gas stations, some live entertainment, some streaming services, and fitness clubs.

Total earnings from the bonus 5% will be calculated once the earning period ends on December 31, 2021, and should be credited to your account no more than 8 weeks later.

Any bonus cash-back earned with this latest offer on the Freedom Flex card will be in addition to the regular quarterly bonus category offer (for Q4, Walmart and PayPal).

With this bonus offer, you’ll be able to earn 9% cash-back with Walmart or PayPal spend, grocery purchases, or travel booked through Chase Travel, depending on which 1 category you’ve spent the most in during the promotional period. While not quite as lucrative, you could earn 7% cash-back on drugstore or dining purchases, since the card already earns 3% back on purchases in those categories.

Final Thoughts

Chase’s new bonus cash-back offer on the Freedom Flex card couldn’t have come at a better time. With the holiday season fast approaching and all the spending that comes with it, you could start seeing some serious cash-back into your account.

Just remember that you can transfer the points earned from your Freedom Flex card to a premium Ultimate Rewards card to maximize your earnings. Doing so makes your points worth 25% to 50% more when you redeem them through the Chase Travel or even more when you transfer them to one of the Chase transfer partners.
