If you’ve been unsuccessfully trying to apply for the Chase Freedom Flex® or have heard rumors that it has been discontinued, you’re not alone. But fear not, the popular $0-annual-fee card is still available, just not online.

We contacted Chase for clarification and were told that, at the moment, applications are only being processed in-branch.

What does that mean for you? Let’s take a look at the details.

Freedom Flex Card Applications Paused Online

If you have tried to apply for the Freedom Flex card over the past few days, you may have noticed that the card disappeared from Chase’s “all credit cards” page. This has led some corners of the internet to speculate that the card was being discontinued.

Curious ourselves, we reached out to Chase directly and were told that the card is still available for new applications, just not online at the moment.

Flex is temporarily unavailable for online applications but those interested can visit a branch if they wish to apply.

As of now, current Freedom Flex cardholders can continue using their cards and have not been informed of any product changes.

Freedom Flex Card Overview

The Freedom Flex card is popular for good reason. With a $0 annual fee and a simple earning structure, it is a great card to have in your wallet if you like earning cash-back or want to pair it with a premium card in the Ultimate Rewards family.

Whichever you choose, the rewards add up fast, with some categories earning 5% cash-back.

  • Earn 5% cash-back on combined purchases in quarterly rotating categories (up to $1,500), activation required.
  • Earn 5% cash-back on travel purchased through the Chase Travel portal.
  • Earn 3% cash-back on dining (including food delivery services).
  • Earn 3% cash-back at drugstores.
  • Earn 1% cash-back on all other purchases.

Plus, the Freedom Flex card has some really useful benefits, including trip cancellation and interruption insurance, purchase protection, and cell phone protection, which are not common on cards with no annual fee.

To make the process easier, be sure you bring your:

Remember, the most important thing when applying for a new Chase card is to ensure that you are below the 5/24 rule.

Hot Tip:

Whenever you are applying for a new credit card, it is important to know the rules of each bank.

Final Thoughts

Despite the rumors, the Freedom Flex card is still available for new applications. However, the online application has been temporarily removed, so anyone interested will need to apply in-branch.
