Chase Ultimate Rewards

Don’t confuse the Freedom Rise card with the Chase Freedom Unlimited® or Chase Freedom Flex® cards. While those products are geared toward consumers with more established credit histories, the Freedom Rise card is a good starter option in the Chase ecosystem.

The card currently earns:

  • 1.5% cash-back on all purchases
  • 3% cash-back on dining purchases during the promotional period (1.5% base earning plus the additional 1.5% bonus)
  • 5% cash-back on travel purchased through the Chase Travel portal

Here’s a look at the card’s limited-time welcome offer:

  • Earn 3% cash back on dining at restaurants, including takeouts and eligible delivery services, on up to $6,000 spent in the first 6 months from account opening.

The Freedom Rise card typically doesn’t offer the kind of massive welcome bonus offers found on premium travel cards, making this limited-time promotion a nice benefit for new cardholders.

However, if you were to max out the spend on the full $6,000 on eligible dining purchases during the first 6 months, you would earn an extra $90 in cash-back rewards from the offer.

And if you pair the card with a premium Ultimate Rewards-earning card, those rewards could become even more valuable. At Upgraded Points, we value Chase Ultimate Rewards points at 2 cents each, making this promotion potentially more rewarding than the cash-back value alone.

Hot Tip:

If you also carry a Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, Chase Sapphire Reserve®, or Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card, you can combine rewards earned on the Freedom Rise card into a single Ultimate Rewards account and redeem them for potentially greater value through Chase travel partners.

Final Thoughts

The Freedom Rise card isn’t typically known for offering large welcome bonuses, so this limited-time dining promotion provides a meaningful boost for new cardholders who regularly spend at restaurants.

While the value of this offer pales in comparison to the massive bonuses available on some other travel rewards cards, it’s still a nice perk for consumers building credit. Better yet, those rewards could eventually become part of a larger stash of Chase points that helps make an amazing future trip a reality.
