Chase has extended its “Pay Yourself Back” feature to another credit card, and the card of choice may surprise you. With $0 for an annual fee, the Marriott Bonvoy Bold® Credit Card might not be the next card you expected to offer this feature.

However, this isn’t the first credit card to offer Pay Yourself Back beyond Chase’s Ultimate Rewards-earning portfolio.

Here’s what you should know about this new feature — whether you have this card already or are thinking about applying.

Using ‘Pay Yourself Back’ With the Marriott Bold Card

Both Chase and American Express offer co-branded Marriott Bonvoy credit cards.

The Marriott Bold card recently launched a new, elevated welcome offer, and the card’s list of benefits was also updated to include Pay Yourself Back — a feature once exclusive to cards that earned Chase Ultimate Rewards points. Now, however, you’ll find this perk on United Airlines credit cards and Southwest Airlines cards, among others.

Using Pay Yourself Back, you can redeem rewards to cover certain items on your credit card bill, such as the card’s annual fee, grocery purchases, charitable donations, and more. The list of eligible categories and the value of redeeming points through Pay Yourself Back varies by card.

Now, you’ll also find this benefit on the Marriott Bold card. You can redeem the Marriott Bonvoy points with this card at a value of 12,500 points to cover $100 in eligible purchases. That’s a value of 0.8 cents per point. Note that points can be redeemed at any time in any increment.

Eligible purchases include airline tickets purchased directly from an airline and Marriott Bonvoy-participating hotels.

Is It Worth It?

Using Pay Yourself Back, you can redeem points from your Marriott Bold card at a value of 0.8 cents per point. Is that good? For context, we value Marriott Bonvoy points at an average of 0.7 cents apiece, though it’s certainly possible to get more value than that when using points for hotel stays.

That said, Chase is allowing you to use your points for hotel stays and airfare at a value slightly above average for Marriott Bonvoy points. It’s worth looking into this option — especially if you have a lot of points and want to use some of them toward airfare rather than hotel stays.

Looking for other options? Here are the best ways to redeem your Marriott Bonvoy points for top value.

Final Thoughts

The Marriott Bold card has joined the ever-growing list of cards offering Chase’s Pay Yourself Back option. Presently, we haven’t seen this benefit listed on Chase’s other Marriott-branded cards, but that doesn’t mean those cards won’t have this feature in the future. Now, cardholders can redeem their points toward airfare and Marriott Bonvoy stays at a slightly above-average value.
