Both Chase and American Express offer Marriott Bonvoy cards, and it’s Chase’s turn to provide new welcome offers on its lineup of Marriott co-branded credit cards.

This includes both the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless® Credit Card and Marriott Bonvoy Bold® Credit Card.

Here’s a look at the increased welcome offers on each card and details of the benefits of each to help you decide which card is the best fit for you.

Marriott Bold Card Welcome Bonus Offer

Current Welcome Offer: Earn 60,000 bonus points plus 1 Free Night Award after you spend $2,000 in the first 3 months. Free Night valued at 50,000 points. Certain hotels have resort fees.

The Marriott Bold card is Marriott’s sole $0-annual-fee credit card, and it underwent some changes as of today. Here are the key features of this refreshed card:

  • Up to 14x points at participating Marriott Bonvoy hotels
  • New: 2x points on at grocery stores, ride-share, select food delivery, select streaming services, and internet, cable, and phone service purchases
  • 1x point on all other purchases
  • Automatic Marriott Bonvoy Silver Elite status
  • Update: 5 Elite Night Credits each year (down from 15 previously)
  • New: No interest and no plan fees on Chase Pay Over TimeSM plans for travel, available on purchase of $100 to $5,000

We value this welcome offer at $770, according to our valuation of Marriott Bonvoy points, though you may receive more or less value depending on how you use the free night award.

Marriott Boundless Card Welcome Bonus Offer

Current Welcome Offer: Earn 3 Free Nights (each night valued up to 50,000 points) after spending $3,000 in the first 3 months.

The Marriott Bonvoy Boundless card comes with a $95 annual fee. Cardholders receive the following perks in return:

  • Up to 17x points on Marriott stays at participating properties
  • 3x points at gas stations, grocery stores, and dining (on up to $6,000 in combined purchases per calendar year, then 2x points)
  • 2x points on all other purchases
  • Annual Free Night Award (worth up to 35,000 points) on each account anniversary
  • 1 Elite Night Credit for every $5,000 of purchases on the card
  • Complimentary Marriott Bonvoy Silver Elite status
  • Earn Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status after $35,000 of cardholder purchases in a calendar year
  • 15 Elite Night Credits per year

We value this welcome offer at $1,050.

Hot Tip:

Even if you hold multiple Marriott personal cards, you’ll only receive the Elite Night Credits from one of them each year — since the credits don’t stack — unless you hold 1 personal Marriott card and 1 business Marriott card.

Is It Worth It?

Now could be a good time to add one of these cards to your wallet — especially considering the best-ever bonus on the Marriott Bold card. Previously, the best offer on this card offered 60,000 points but didn’t tack on a free night award for extra value.

Using the current welcome offers, you could book free nights at a wide selection of amazing Marriott properties — the numbers speak for themselves here.

Hot Tip:

Am I Eligible for These Welcome Bonuses?

As both of these cards are issued by Chase, there are a few application rules you need to consult before applying. First, both cards are subject to Chase’s 5/24 rule, meaning you’re unlikely to be approved for either card if you’ve opened 5 or more credit cards in the past 24 months, based on what’s showing on your credit report.

Moreover, Chase and Amex have a complicated web of rules for Marriott co-branded credit cards, based on which other Marriott credit cards you have or had in the past. Ensure you read the terms clearly with an eye toward the exclusions as they relate to your Marriott credit card history.

Final Thoughts

If you’ve been considering either of these cards, now may be the time with these new limited-time welcome offers on Marriott’s Chase-issued cards. Obviously, several of the changes to the Marriott Bold card are negative; Chase is hoping to offset that by offering an incredible welcome bonus with rare value for a $0-annual-fee card. If you’re eligible for the bonuses, they can provide some excellent travel redemptions.

Just be sure you’re able to meet the minimum spend requirements on your credit card before signing up in order to maximize the value you’ll receive.
