There’s a nice surprise in the Chase Travel portal for some cardholders right now, offering more value when using your points to book an upcoming trip.

This unadvertised sale is targeted, meaning not everyone will be able to use their points at an elevated value. Those who are eligible, though, will be able to use their points at 1.75 or even 2.25 cents each — much higher than typical values.

Here’s what we’re seeing — and how you can check your account for the points boost.

Chase Travel Offering Boosted Points Redemption Values

Typically, when redeeming Ultimate Rewards points in the Chase Travel portal, your points are worth 1, 1.25, or 1.5 cents each, depending on which Chase credit card you have.

Those with no-annual-fee Chase credit cards can use their points at 1 cent each toward flights, hotels, activities, and more. Those with the Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card and Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, however, can use their points at a value of 1.25 cents each. The best value, 1.5 cents per point, is available with the Chase Sapphire Reserve®.

Right now, however, some cardholders are finding deals to redeem their points at higher values — up to 2.25 cents per point in some cases. That 2.25 cents per point value is available only to targeted Chase Sapphire Reserve cardholders, while others with the Chase Sapphire Reserve card and Chase Sapphire Preferred card can redeem their points at 1.75 cents each.

For example, an Upgraded Points writer with the Chase Sapphire Preferred card found offers to use their points at multiple hotels for 1.75 cents each. That’s 0.5 cents per point in increased value, and the reduced points requirements were labeled clearly.

While we’ve seen reports online today that some Chase Sapphire Reserve cardholders can use their points at 2.25 cents each, none of our writers had that offer. Instead, those with the Chase Sapphire Reserve card reported either “no deals” or only finding the 1.75-cents-per-point offers.

The offers aren’t just on hotels; they’re also on flights. Not all flights are showing improved redemption values, though. For instance, a Qatar Airways flight from Doha, Qatar (DOH) to Malé (MLE) in the Maldives, in business class, has an increased value of 1.75 cents per point. However, this flight in economy is available at the typical value of 1.25 cents per point with the Chase Sapphire Preferred card.

For context, we value Chase Ultimate Rewards points at 2 cents each. Redeeming them at 1.75 cents each is less than ideal, but it can make sense if there aren’t other options to book the travel you want using points. Redeeming your points at an elevated 2.25 cents in the portal, assuming you have that offer, provides above-average value.

How To Find These Offers

This is an unadvertised sale. That means there’s no link to send you straight to a website that says, “Yes, you’re eligible for this offer.”

Instead, to see if you’re eligible, log in to the Chase Travel portal and start searching for flights or hotels. Check the redemption values available. (To do this, divide the cash cost by the number of points required.)

You also can look for indicators like the screenshots above, showing a reduced requirement on how many points you need. If you have the offer, it should be pretty clear.

Key terms and conditions we’ve seen for those with the offer include:

  • Eligible bookings include airline tickets, hotel accommodations, car rentals, activities, and cruises.
  • Promotional redemption values vary, offer dates vary, and eligible cardmembers vary.
  • Only bookings made through Chase are eligible.
  • Increased redemption values for points may vary between fare classes when booking flights.

Final Thoughts

Right now, eligible Chase cardholders can redeem their Ultimate Rewards points at improved values, getting up to 1.75 or even 2.25 cents per point when booking hotels or airfare through the Chase Travel portal.

Unfortunately, not everyone will be targeted for this offer, and there’s no promotional page listing who’s eligible or what they can book with improved points values. You’ll have to go to the Chase Travel portal, try to make a booking, and see what pops up.
