Chime, a U.S.-based financial technology (fintech) firm, has announced a brand-new credit card product that offers cash-back on many purchases and has no annual fee.

The company has offered a suite of banking products for many years, in addition to another secured credit card product, but this is an all-new entrant designed for its Chime+ members.

“With the new Chime Card, we’re building on top of the everyday banking features our members already rely on, to make the Chime experience even more rewarding,” said Ryan King, Chime’s co-founder. “We’ve kept the benefits people value most and removed the mandatory fees and barriers they don’t.”

Let’s take a look at the details of this new credit card.

Chime Card: Cash-Back With No Annual Fee

The all-new Chime Card is a secured credit card that earns uncapped 1.5% cash-back on various everyday spending categories such as groceries, gas, and restaurants. These categories change quarterly, are displayed within the Chime mobile app (iOS, Android), and are paid out weekly. Unfortunately, purchases outside these categories won’t earn rewards.

The new cash-back card is available to Chime+ members, a free membership level for those who set up a qualifying direct deposit. In addition to cash-back earned from the new Chime card, members will continue to access the suite of Chime+ perks, which include:

  • 3.75% APY on savings
  • SpotMe: Fee-free overdraft protection
  • MyPay: Get early access to paychecks
  • Priority customer support
  • Chime Deals, which can be stacked with the cash-back earned from the Chime card

The card is available in a number of designs, including “Classic Black,” “Evergreen,” and even a titanium-metal finish for a cost of $50 plus tax.

The Chime card is being rolled out now and “will become available to all new and existing members over the coming weeks and months,” according to a press release from Chime. This product is distinct from Chime’s existing credit card product, the Chime Credit Builder Secured Visa® Credit Card.

While the Chime Credit Builder Secured card will continue to be supported for existing cardholders, the new Chime card will serve as the sole credit card option for new members. Existing cardholders can seamlessly upgrade to the new product.

Final Thoughts

Chime is offering a new credit card product that complements its existing suite of online banking features that many customers have come to love over the years. While earning rates aren’t industry-leading, the Chime card is sure to be a solid product for existing Chime+ customers who want to add another dose of rewards-earning on top of the perks they already receive from their membership.
