Citi Costco Cards Add 5% Cash-Back Earnings on Costco Gas Purchases

Cardholders of the Costco Anywhere Visa^® Card by Citi and the Costco Anywhere Visa^® Business Card by Citi are getting some positive updates to their cards and can now earn even more cash-back on gas purchases.

Let’s take a full look at the card updates.

Costco Credit Cards Now Earn 5% Cash-Back on Gas at Costco

Starting January 19, 2025, those with the Costco Anywhere card or the Costco Anywhere Business card can earn 5% cash-back rewards on gas purchased at Costco.

Better yet, this new cash-back is in addition to the 4% cash-back on other eligible gas and electric vehicle charging purchases.

That said, these cash-back rates will still be limited to the first $7,000 in spending per year, and 1% back thereafter. This $7,000 cap is applied to combined purchases in the 4% and 5% cash-back categories. Thus, if you spend $5,000 at Costco gas stations and $2,000 at non-Costco gas stations, that would put you at the annual cap, and any further fuel purchases would earn just 1% cash-back for the rest of the year.

Both of these cards were already 2 of the best credit cards for gas station purchases on the market, and now they just got even more rewarding. Assuming you were purchasing most of your gas at Costco with these cards anyway, you now can earn up to $70 in additional cash-back every year.

Other Unchanged Card Benefits

All other perks and benefits of the Costco Anywhere card and Costco Anywhere Business card will remain unchanged, including earning:

• 3% cash-back on restaurants and eligible travel, including Costco Travel
• 2% back on all other purchases from Costco and Costco.com
• 1% back on all other purchases

Additionally, both cards offer purchase protection, rental car insurance, travel accident insurance, roadside dispatch, and no foreign transaction fees. While you’ll see a $0 annual fee on the Costco Anywhere card and a $0 annual fee on the Costco Anywhere Business card, do note that you need an active Costco membership to hold either card.

This is an excellent addition for cardholders of both the Costco Anywhere card and the Costco Anywhere Business card. Going forward, the earning rates for fuel purchases at Costco are 25% more rewarding than they were in the past.
