Multiple banks have credit cards with rotating bonus categories, letting you earn extra points or cash-back in categories that change every few months. With Citi, you’ll find this feature on the Citi® Dividend Platinum Select® Visa® Card. And you can now activate the 5% cash-back categories for the third quarter of 2025.

Earning bonus cash-back each quarter requires enrolling your Citi Dividend Platinum card, which you can typically do up to 15 days before the new quarter starts.

Here’s a look at the new categories for Q3 2025 on the Citi Dividend Platinum card and how to enroll for bonus cash-back.

New 5% Cash-Back Categories on the Citi Dividend Platinum Card

Citi updates its bonus categories every quarter, so categories are active January-March, April-June, July-September, and October-December each year. You’ll be able to earn 5% cash-back with your Citi Dividend Platinum card in the available categories each quarter.

For the third quarter of 2025, these are the eligible categories:

  • Gas stations
  • Home improvement stores

Registration for the Q3 2025 categories is open, and they take effect on July 1, 2025.

Plus, through June 30, 2025, you can continue to earn in the Q2 2025 categories:

  • Citi Travel: Eligible purchases include hotels, car rentals, and attractions booked through the Citi Travel site. Excludes air travel purchases.
  • Grocery Stores: Includes purchases at supermarkets, meat/seafood stores, dairy stores, bakeries, and miscellaneous food/convenience stores. Excludes purchases at general merchandise/discount superstores; wholesale/warehouse clubs; candy, nut and confectionery stores. Purchases made at online supermarkets or with grocery delivery services also do not qualify if the merchant does not use supermarket merchant category code.

How To Earn 5% Cash-Back With the Citi Dividend Platinum Card

You must enroll your card online for the bonus categories each quarter. You won’t start earning bonus cash-back on your card unless you enroll, and the bonus earnings only kick in 2 days after enrollment — or when the new categories take effect, assuming you enrolled in advance.

Unlike other cards that earn bonus cash-back in rotating categories — such as the Chase Freedom Flex® and Discover it® Cash Back Card — the maximum earnings on the Citi Dividend Platinum card apply to the entire year, not each quarter. For example, you can earn 5% cash-back on up to $1,500 of spending in each quarter’s bonus categories with the Freedom Flex card, but you’ll return to the card’s normal earning rates after passing $1,500 in eligible purchases.

With the Citi Dividend Platinum card, you can earn a total of $300 in cash-back across all purchases made during the year — including the bonus cash-back from the 5% categories each quarter. The good news from this feature is that you can maximize your earnings by spending $6,000 in just 1 quarter if you find those categories particularly useful. However, you wouldn’t be able to earn any more cash-back on the card for the rest of the year, so it’s worth knowing about this limitation.

Bottom Line:

You can earn 5% cash-back with the Citi Dividend Platinum card, and the eligible categories change every 3 months. You can earn up to $300 in cash-back with this card each year, whether you earn it all in 1 quarter or space it out over the course of the year.

Final Thoughts

Citi has unveiled the Citi Dividend Platinum card’s 5% cash-back categories for the third quarter of 2025. The categories for Q3 2025 are gas stations and home improvement stores. It’s no longer possible to apply for this card; if you have it, though, remember to activate your categories each quarter to earn bonus cash-back.
