Thanks to a new feature from CLEAR, travelers passing through New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport Terminal 4 can now reserve a dedicated time slot in the security lane for themselves and those traveling with them.

Here’s everything you need to know to speed through security.

Reserve Powered by CLEAR Lane at JFK Terminal 4

The goal of the new Reserve powered by CLEAR Lane at JFK’s Terminal 4 is to provide more predictability and peace of mind for travelers in the increasingly busy airport.

Travelers can reserve their slot in the dedicated security lane up to 72 hours before departure. Slots are available starting at least 60 minutes before domestic flights and at least 75 minutes before international flights. It appears that travelers do not need to be CLEAR members to use this new program.

Here’s how it works:

  • Reserve your spot in line online by entering your flight details and party size and picking a reservation time.
  • Confirm your details and finish booking by entering your email address. You’ll receive an email with a QR code after you’ve done this.
  • When you arrive at airport security, look for signs pointing to the Reserve powered by CLEAR lane, where you’ll scan your QR code.

Keep in mind that if you choose to use Reserve, you cannot also use CLEAR or TSA PreCheck.

The entry point is open daily between 5 a.m. and 10 a.m.

“The rebound of the travel industry means more people are heading to the airport this weekend, and CLEAR’s technology is making traveling through JFK T4 more seamless and less stressful than ever,” said CLEAR CEO Caryn Seidman-Becker in a statement.

The reservation system is also available at the following airports:

  • Calgary International Airport (YYC)
  • Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)
  • Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR)
  • Orlando International Airport (MCO)
  • Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX)
  • Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA)

If you don’t already have a CLEAR membership, those who have The Platinum Card® from American ExpressThe Business Platinum Card® from American Express, or the Centurion® Card from American Express receive a $189 credit towards membership.

Delta SkyMiles and United MileagePlus members also receive membership at a discount, and top-tier Diamond Medallion and Premier 1K members get a membership at no cost.

Finally, CLEAR is running a promotion through  July 9, 2022, where United MileagePlus members will receive 10,000 miles, and Premier members will receive 15,000 miles when they sign up for the program. We value United MileagePlus Miles at 1.3 cents each, making this promotion worth $130 and $195, respectively.

Final Thoughts

JFK’s Terminal 4 is notoriously busy. It’s home to nearly 3 dozen airlines and serves tens of millions of passengers each year. With travel picking up and more than 2 million travelers going through TSA checkpoints daily, having an option to reserve a slot to go through security screening is sure to mitigate the stress of traveling for some passengers.
