Ever wanted to visit Lisbon? You’re in luck because we’ve found widespread award availability with Avianca’s’ sweet spot from New York (JFK) to Lisbon (LIS). This means you’ll only need to pay 35,000 miles — in business!

Read on for more details.

Fare Alert — Details

Avianca Lifemiles’ website is infamous for its anti-user-friendly features, but there’s no denying that it has some excellent award pricing. For example, you can fly from New York (JFK) to Lisbon (LIS) on TAP Air Portugal for nearly 50% off. We’re not complaining!

  • Class: Business
  • Routes: New York (JFK) to Lisbon (LIS)
  • Dates: January to April 2024
  • Rates: As low as 35,000 miles one-way

The easiest way to search for award availability is via Seats.aero, whose pro function will search up to a year in advance. Here you can see plenty of space on this route.

Booking will need to be done via the Avianca Lifemiles website. If you’re not familiar with it, it’s a bit clunky, but it’s definitely worth the time. As you can see here, it’ll cost you 30,000 miles for an economy class seat, or just 35,000 miles for that same flight in business class.

You’ll want to be aware that Avianca charges a $25 booking fee on all award flights, which means that your real out-of-pocket cost is going to be just over $50.

The cost for these flights hovers at just over $2,400 each, which means you’ll be redeeming your points at a rate of 6.8 cents per point. This is way over our valuation of 1.4 cents per point of Avianca Lifemiles!

Best Ways To Book

Avianca Lifemiles are some of the easiest miles to earn thanks to their partnerships with transferable points currencies. You can transfer points from Amex Membership Rewards, Capital One Miles, Citi ThankYou Rewards at a 1:1 ratio. You can also choose to transfer Marriott Bonvoy points at a 3:1 ratio, with a 5,000-mile bonus thrown in for every 60,000 points that you transfer.

Although you won’t have much in taxes and fees, you’ll still need to use your card to pay. We recommend the Chase Sapphire Reserve® because its travel insurance will keep you fully covered even though you’re traveling on an award flight.
