This winter, Delta Air Lines will add another route to Hawaii. While Delta already flies to Kona from both Seattle and Los Angeles, Salt Lake City will get nonstop flights to the Big Island in December.

This will be Delta’s 17th route to Hawaii from the continental U.S., operating during the busy winter travel season.

Details of Delta’s Salt Lake City-Kona Route

Delta operated flights between Salt Lake City, Utah (SLC) and Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport at Keāhole (KOA) on Hawaii’s Big Island between 2005 and 2007. Now, the route is resuming for the busy 2025-2026 winter travel period.

Flights will be operated by a Boeing 767-300ER, offering Delta One, Delta Comfort+, and Main Cabin seating. This is a seasonal route addition, operating from December 19, 2025, to March 28, 2206.

Delta already serves Kona from Los Angeles (LAX) and Seattle-Tacoma (SEA), making Salt Lake City a third option for travelers. While these existing flights are on sale and available for bookings with SkyMiles, the new flights between SLC and KOA aren’t available for reservations yet.

Other Delta News for Hawaii

Delta is also increasing its winter-time frequency between Salt Lake City and Maui (OGG), operating flights 4 times per week starting on October 6, 2025. That will increase to a daily flight in November, and the SLC-OGG route will see 2 daily flights from December 19, 2025, to January 6, 2026. These flights also will use a B767-300ER.

This year, Delta’s service to Maui from its Atlanta (ATL) hub will start earlier than it has in the past. Flights will be operated by an Airbus A330-300 as of November 6, 2025. Additionally, the route from ATL to Honolulu (HNL) will gain a second daily flight during the busy winter months, running from December 19, 2025, to January 5, 2026, using a B767-300ER.

Finally, Delta will add capacity on its route between Minneapolis-St. Paul (MSP) and Honolulu from November 6, 2025, to March 28, 2026, using an A330-300 aircraft instead of the B767-300ER.

Final Thoughts

Delta is increasing its flying capacity to Hawaii for the 2025-2026 winter season — a busy period for visitors to the islands every year. From earlier service to increased capacity, the carrier is expanding service on several routes. It’s also adding a new route to Kona from Salt Lake City, marking Delta’s third connection to KOA during the winter.
