Dreaming of visiting the Land Down Under?

Today’s your lucky day because the recently reopened country is now very accessible thanks to Delta’s newest flash sale.

You can find round-trip rates tickets for as few as 70,000 SkyMiles in economy — and there’s widespread availability.

Let’s take a look at this great deal!

Promotion Details

Tickets to Australia are notoriously expensive, given its relative isolation and distance from the U.S. With this promotion, you can redeem just $700 worth of points for your round-trip ticket.

Here are some important details about this flash sale:

  • Prices start from 70,000 Delta SkyMiles round-trip in economy
  • The cheapest flights include departures from Chicago (ORD/MDW), Denver (DEN), and Houston (HOU/IAH)
  • The sale prices are valid for dates from fall onwards
  • Sale prices are available in economy class only

In order to find these flights, you’ll first want to navigate to Delta’s site. From here, you can enter your travel information, including destination and dates of travel:

Shopping with miles automatically brings up a flexible search, but you can also opt to use the award calendar to find dates that work for you:

Is It Worth It?

As long as you don’t mind flying in economy to Australia, this deal is absolutely worth it.

It’s almost impossible to find round-trip flights to Australia for under $1,000 — even in coach. We value Delta SkyMiles at 1 cent apiece, which means that redeeming 70,000 SkyMiles is worth $700.

In contrast, here’s the cash cost of one of those same Delta flights:

At this rate, you’ll be redeeming your SkyMiles for 2.02 cents apiece, more than double our valuation.

The only downside is that you’ll have to spend upwards of 15 hours in economy each way. Of course, that’s no fun, but at least there are plenty of departure airports, and these flights are operated by Delta, which provides one of the better economy experiences out there.

As we mentioned above, availability is plentiful, so you should be able to find flights for practically any dates you desire.

If your balance of SkyMiles is low, you can always top off your account since Delta is an American Express transfer partner at a 1:1 ratio.

We don’t normally recommend transferring Amex points to Delta, but you’ll be redeeming them for a great value on these flights, so it’s not a bad play if you need to do so.

Final Thoughts

This is an excellent use of Delta SkyMiles if you’re not bothered by flying in economy as you’ll get an excellent value for the Delta SkyMiles you redeem.

Even better, award availability is widespread, which means you’ll more than likely find dates that suit your needs.
