If you’ve been wanting to book a domestic Southwest flight and have some Rapid Rewards points to use, you can save 20% on the cost of your award flight. But you’ll have to act quickly, as the award flights must be booked by the end of day today, July 15.

Southwest has a loyal following of flyers, thanks to customer-friendly perks like free checked bags and a flexible change and cancellation policy. Now, you can get all those benefits for less, thanks to this promotion.

Let’s take a look at all you need to know.

Southwest’s Summer Promotion — Save 20% on Award Flights

This latest Southwest promotion is pretty straightforward: You can save 20% on award flights.

Unfortunately, not everyone can participate. After logging into your account, you can try to enroll for this promotion here.

If eligible, you’ll get 20% of your points back when redeeming Southwest points if you book an award flight between July 12 and 15. Eligible travel dates are now through November 20, 2024.

Note that the points rebate won’t count toward A-List or A-List Preferred status, and this promotion only applies to new bookings.

It’s worth noting that Southwest Rapid Rewards is a revenue-based rewards program, which means that award rates are aligned very closely with cash fares. All of this means that this promotion represents a fairly rare opportunity to redeem Rapid Rewards points at an outsized value.

This could also be a great time to check your existing award bookings with Southwest. You can cancel and rebook them with the 20% discount if that would be cheaper than what you originally paid.

Hot Tip:

If you’re short on points to book an award flight with this promotion, you can quickly transfer points from Chase Ultimate Rewards at a 1:1 ratio or transfer points from Marriott Bonvoy at a 3:1 ratio.

Final Thoughts

Overall, this is an excellent promotion for anyone with some Rapid Rewards points in their account. Since Southwest has a revenue-based award program, deals like this are rare and lucrative.

If you have any potential Southwest travel in the near future, it could be worth booking flights now to take advantage of this deal, especially considering the fact that you can change or cancel flights later with no fees.

If you’re going to go ahead and book, remember to do so quickly as the booking window closes tonight.
