Over the years, I’ve accumulated millions of points and miles, redeeming them for tens of thousands of dollars’ worth of travel, which has presented me with opportunities I could only have dreamed of years ago.

At the start of each year, I review new ways to earn more points and miles while continuing to rely on the proven strategies that have worked well for me, including strategic credit card applications, maximizing personal and business spend, and referring friends and family.

Together, these strategies have allowed me to take a streamlined approach to earning rewards. Here’s a quick look at how I plan to use them to earn more than 500,000 or more points and miles in 2026.

Earning Points With New Credit Cards (350,000+ Points)

While there are countless ways to earn points and miles, there’s no easier path to a large balance than by earning welcome offers on travel rewards cards. I plan to earn nearly 400,000 points by just applying for new cards and meeting the spending requirements for each card.

Despite already holding more than 20 credit cards, I still plan to apply for at least 2 more in 2026.

Earning Points Through Credit Card Spending (100,000 Points)

After opening new rewards cards, the next biggest opportunity to earn points is everyday spending. The key is using the right cards in the right categories to maximize your earning potential.

Dining is one of my largest expenses, with spending that often exceeds $2,000 per month. To boost my earnings, I plan to put that spend on the Amex Business Gold card, which earns 4x points in the top 2 monthly spending categories, including U.S. restaurants.

I also focus on how purchases are made, and by stacking promotions and online shopping portals, I can earn thousands of extra points on purchases I was already planning to make.

In one case, a shopping portal earned me an extra 4,000 points on a single purchase, and similar stacks have resulted in 5,000+ points from a single order.

Earning Points Through Credit Card Referrals (Varies)

Credit card referrals are another reliable way I earn a meaningful number of points and miles each year. Most major card issuers offer referral programs that award points or miles when someone you refer is approved.

Over time, points and miles have completely changed how I travel, and my friends and family naturally took notice. Now, when they’re ready to open a new card, many come to me for guidance, which consistently results in tens of thousands of points annually with little extra effort.

Final Thoughts

Earning half a million points in a year is impressive, but the real value lies in what those points can unlock — from premium travel to meaningful savings. With the right mix of welcome offers, category bonuses, and referrals, earning at that level is both realistic and repeatable.
