Update:The offer mentioned below has expired and is no longer available.

London is always a good idea, especially when you can get there for as little as $320!

TAP Air Portugal offers great one-stop itineraries from the U.S. to popular vacation cities across Europe, with London often coming out as the best value destination.

This particular fare deal includes TAP services from East Coast cities like Newark (EWR) and Boston (BOS) to London’s Heathrow (LHR) or Gatwick (LGW). However, you’ll have to first stop in Lisbon (LIS) or Porto (OPO).

Let’s go over the details!

Fare Deal — Details

Flying TAP, even in economy, is a great way to cross the Atlantic thanks to its ultra-modern Airbus A321LR aircraft.

TAP is also a member of Star Alliance. So, if you have Premier Gold status or higher with fellow member airline United, then you’ll get to enjoy select benefits when flying TAP, too.

  • Class: Economy
  • Routes: Boston (BOS) and Newark (EWR) to London (LHR and LGW)
  • Dates: October through December 2023
  • Rates: As low as $320 round-trip

The cheapest tickets we found (when booking directly through the airline, which is always advisable) start at just $320 and depart from Newark (EWR).

The $320 option comes with a stopover in Porto both ways and includes an overnight stay on the return leg — perfect for a day exploring one of Europe’s cutest cities. Note that accommodation costs aren’t included in the fares.

There are also more options from Newark, this time via Lisbon and onwards to London’s Heathrow rather than Gatwick. These start at $343:

Following closely behind are flights from Boston (BOS) to London-Heathrow (LHR) via Lisbon (LIS):

If you’re good at packing light, then you won’t even need to pay extra for checked baggage as TAP’s lowest fares come with a 22 pounds (10 kg) carry-on and 4.5 pounds (2 kg) personal item allowance.

Best Ways to Book

When booking a cash ticket, it’s always a good idea to use a travel credit card that will reward you for booking flights.

For example, The Platinum Card® from American Express will earn you 5x points per dollar spent on flights when booked through the AmexTravel.com portal or directly with the airline (up to $500,000 per year; then 1x points).

Owning an Amex Platinum card can also get you lounge access — even when you’re flying in economy — thanks to the Priority Pass membership (upon enrollment) that comes as a benefit of the card.

Hot Tip:

Booking through an online travel agency (OTA) such as Kayak or Expedia can potentially save you a few dollars, which can seem all-too appealing at the time of booking. However, it’s worth remembering that if you need to make changes or cancellations, the headache that can often come with dealing with an OTA can make that money you saved seem insignificant.

Final Thoughts

Why not treat yourself to a getaway to London with TAP this fall or winter?

With fares so low, just think of the extra money you’ll have to spend at the pub drinking pints and eating fish and chips.
