EVA Air, the Taiwanese airline that services 7 U.S. cities, is set to roll out a “significant upgrade” to its inflight Wi-Fi service. To commemorate the improved product, EVA will offer free Wi-Fi on select flights this summer.

For a limited time, all passengers will have access to complimentary inflight Wi-Fi on equipped aircraft. Following the promotional period, the free offerings will be extended to business class passengers and Infinity MileageLands members.

Let’s take a look at the details.

Free Wi-Fi and Messaging This Summer

EVA Air will be upgrading its inflight internet service and, to celebrate, will offer free Wi-Fi and messaging on select flights from July 1 through September 30, 2025.

This limited-time promotion will be available to all passengers on Wi-Fi-equipped aircraft, the Boeing 777-300ER, Boeing 787, and Airbus A330-300, regardless of elite status or cabin.

Although the EVA press release describes this as “unlimited web browsing,” there are some restrictions, including no support for video streaming, voice calls, VPN connections, or video conferencing.

Text messaging is supported via apps that use the internet (not SMS), such as WhatsApp, iMessage, and LINE.

Passengers flying on the airline’s Airbus A321-200 aircraft will have access to EVA’s wireless inflight entertainment system, which streams to their personal devices.

EVA Internet Options Starting October 1

After the promotional period, free Wi-Fi and messaging will still be available, but only for business class passengers and elite members.

Economy and premium economy passengers can still get access, but what is included will be determined by cabin and whether or not they have elite status with the EVA Infinity MileageLands program.

To get access, passengers must add their Infinity MileageLands membership number during the booking process so that the system can determine their eligibility.

This shouldn’t be an issue for EVA frequent flyers trying to maintain their status, but the occasional traveler may prefer to add a different Star Alliance loyalty program to earn miles elsewhere, so some may not find the tradeoff worth it, especially if it is just for free texts.

Hot Tip:

When you sign up for an EVA Infinity MileageLands membership, you will earn 1,000 bonus miles.

Final Thoughts

EVA will offer free inflight Wi-Fi and messaging this summer for passengers on equipped aircraft.

However, starting October 1, only elite members and business class passengers will get the unlimited package, and it may not make sense for everyone to add their loyalty number just for free texts.
