Update:

The offer mentioned below has expired and is no longer available.

Expedia and Hotels.com are rewarding One Key members with savings of 25% or more on thousands of hotels worldwide.

This could be a great opportunity to book some holiday travel, as dates over Thanksgiving, Christmas, and more are eligible.

Let’s examine this sale and consider whether it’s worth booking through an online travel agency (OTA) rather than directly with the hotel.

OneKey Hotels Holiday Sale

Now through October 13, 2024, One Key members can save 25% or more at thousands of select hotels worldwide on Expedia and Hotels.com.

One Key is the loyalty program of Expedia, Hotels.com, and Vrbo, and it is free to join. If you have some travel coming up (for which you don’t need elite night credits in a hotel’s own program), it could be a no-brainer to sign up and save some cash on your next hotel stay.

As always, check to see if the best price is directly with the hotel first, and note that availability is limited and there are blackout dates.s

If you’re interested, you can book directly with either Expedia’s sale page here or the Hotels.com promotion page.

The Holiday Sale is valid for travel through March 31, 2025.

Hot Tip:

Earn $15 in OneKeyCash just for downloading the Hotels.com app.

Is It Worth It?

Here at Upgraded Points, whenever we pay cash for a hotel, it is with intent, and we’re always thinking about how it will benefit future stays.

In general, we tend to avoid online travel agencies, as booking directly with a hotel often unlocks additional benefits and loyalty perks like upgrades, breakfast, bonus points, elite nights, and more.

However, if the price is right, booking with an OTA can make sense. That’s especially true if the hotel is an independent boutique hotel and is not part of a larger group or chain. The same logic applies if you aren’t pursuing (or don’t hold) elite status with the hotel you’re visiting.

We ran a quick search, and while there are independent hotels at which this sale would make sense, if you are booking a chain hotel and are collecting points, you might be better off booking directly with the hotel.

For example, this sale specifically mentions the Kimpton Vero Beach Hotel & Spa, an IHG Hotel.

If you booked via Hotels.com, the price would be $467 for 1 night in October.

If you booked directly with IHG, you would pay $446 for the same exact room. Plus, you would earn IHG One Rewards points and be eligible for any additional benefits if you had IHG elite status.

So, by booking directly with the hotel, you would save $21 and earn elite nights and points.

Final Thoughts

Expedia and Hotels.com are running a Holiday Sale that can (potentially) save you 25% off hotels worldwide.

As always, it’s best to compare prices and check to see if booking directly with the hotel you are looking at is cheaper — especially if it is part of a larger hotel group where you could earn and enjoy benefits.

But, if you like earning OneKeyCash and your hotel has a good discount, this could be a great time to book.
