Weather plays a major role in travel decisions, and now Vrbo is introducing a new way to address that concern directly at the booking stage.

Customers booking through Vrbo can now add a weather guarantee through a partnership with WeatherPromise. If rainfall during a trip exceeds a preset threshold specific to the destination and travel dates, customers will receive an automatic payout — no claims forms or paperwork required.

Let’s take a closer look at how this weather guarantee actually works.

Vrbo Partners With WeatherPromise for Rain Coverage

Vrbo customers in the U.S. can now add WeatherPromise protection to eligible bookings directly during checkout.

Here’s how it works: If rainfall during your trip exceeds a predetermined amount tied to your specific destination and travel dates, you’ll automatically receive a payout. There’s no need to file a claim, submit documentation, or go back and forth with an insurance company. The system tracks official weather data and processes payments automatically.

This isn’t WeatherPromise’s first travel partnership. The company recently partnered with Marriott to give guests booking Homes & Villas by Marriott Bonvoy compensation if rainy weather dampens their trip.

Separately, Jamaica Tourism, JetBlue, and WeatherPromise will roll out a limited-time promotion on March 1, 2026, offering complimentary rain coverage for Jamaica vacation packages booked through November 30, further expanding WeatherPromise’s footprint in the travel space.

For Vrbo, this partnership makes total sense. Weather often plays a central role in vacation rental bookings, particularly for beach homes, ski cabins, and other outdoor-centric trips. Offering a weather guarantee at checkout won’t change the forecast, but it may reduce hesitation for travelers who are concerned about rain impacting their stay.

For destinations such as Florida — where afternoon storms are fairly routine even outside hurricane season — this type of protection may resonate with travelers who factor weather heavily into their plans as they worry about the impact on beach time or theme park days.

Hot Tip:

If you’re booking a trip where weather can make or break the experience — think Caribbean beach vacations, outdoor national park stays, or ski trips — adding a weather guarantee could be worth a closer look. It won’t stop the rain, but it might offer peace of mind that many travelers welcome.

Final Thoughts

Weather has always been one of the biggest question marks when planning a trip, especially if you’re heading somewhere for the beach or outdoor activities. Vrbo’s partnership with WeatherPromise won’t magically clear up the rain, but it does give travelers another layer of protection to consider.

In the end, it’ll likely come down to cost and personal preference. Still, it’s a notable move — and one more way travel brands are trying to make travelers a bit more comfortable booking that next trip without second-guessing the forecast.
