Though I’ve visited Japan 10 times in the last decade, I had never been to Sapporo, the capital city of Hokkaido Prefecture. Fortunately, my visit coincided with the opening of the Hyatt Centric Sapporo, a property that had been in the works for several years.

First introduced in 2015, Hyatt Centric is a lifestyle brand designed to cater to business and leisure travelers. The brand provides a ton of value and has some fantastic properties worldwide.

The Hyatt Centric Sapporo opened on October 3, 2026, just 2 days before my stay. Here’s a look at the brand-new property and what you need to know.

1. Redeeming Hyatt Points Provides Excellent Value

The Hyatt Centric Sapporo is a Category 3 World of Hyatt hotel, meaning that award nights start at just 8,000 points per night and can be as high as 20,000 points per night, depending on your dates. My 1-night stay cost me just 8,000 points.

However, before booking with points, I wanted to see Hyatt‘s cash rate for the 1-night stay to see if I was getting good value for my points (as I do with all my award bookings). The cheapest standard room (Member Grand Opening rate) could be booked for ¥59,475 ($376), including all taxes and fees.

According to our valuations, World of Hyatt points are worth 1.5 cents per point, making 8,000 points worth $120. Since the cash rate was more than triple the value of the points, this was an excellent use of World of Hyatt points. Even at the higher points rates, the Hyatt Centric Sapporo provides above-average value when redeeming points.

I booked a Standard King room, hoping that my World of Hyatt Discoverist status — which I receive as an automatic benefit from The World of Hyatt Credit Card — would get me upgraded to a nicer room.

2. It Has a Prime Location in the Heart of Sapporo

The Hyatt Centric Sapporo occupies the upper floors of the Urbannet Sapporo Link Tower, less than a 10-minute walk from Sapporo Station.

The property is less than a 15-minute walk from many Sapporo attractions, including the Former Hokkaido Government Office Building (Red Brick Building), Odori Park, the Sapporo TV Tower, Tanukikoji Shopping Arcade, and AOAO Sapporo.

The Hyatt Centric Sapporo is connected to Sapporo Station via the city’s underground walkway. The underground path is extremely easy to follow, but finding the entrance to the Hyatt Centric Sapporo can be challenging due to limited signage.

When leaving Sapporo Station via the underground walkway, you will need to walk roughly 5-7 minutes until you see a sign for “Kita 1-jyo intersection.” At the intersection, turn right toward Kita 1-jyo underground parking, and you will begin to see signs for the Urbannet Sapporo Link Tower and the Hyatt Centric Sapporo.

3. Rooms Feel Modern and Curated

The Hyatt Centric Sapporo boasts 216 guest rooms, including 9 suites. At check-in, I was upgraded to a 1 King Bed, Red Brick Heritage View guest room.

As expected at a brand-new hotel, my room at the Hyatt Centric Sapporo was modern and thoughtfully designed, reflecting the hotel’s recent opening. The room was extremely spacious and felt refined, understated, and highly curated, similar to rooms at Hyatt Centric properties I have stayed in before.

There was an extremely comfortable king bed with high-quality linens and pillows. Above the bed was an interesting art piece.

The room also featured a lounging area with a chaise lounge and a wall-mounted cushion seating area. There was an extraordinarily large dining table which doubled as a workstation. The high-end furnishings made the whole room feel more extravagant.

Of course, as the room’s name suggested, it offered a view of the Red Brick Heritage Building, also referred to as the Former Hokkaido Government Office Building. It is one of Sapporo’s main tourist attractions.

The marble bathroom was next to the sleeping area, which was convenient. It featured a single vanity, a walk-in shower, and a deep soaking tub.

The toilet was behind a separate door near the room’s entrance and featured a modern Japanese bidet system.

Bottom Line:

Overall, I loved my room at the Hyatt Centric Sapporo. The room had a relatively simple layout but was extremely spacious. The furniture choices and modern design made the room feel quite luxurious.

4. On-Site Amenities Are Limited

The Hyatt Centric Sapporo features somewhat limited on-site amenities. The property’s biggest offering is its fully equipped, 24-hour-a-day fitness center on the 19th floor. The gym boasts various cardio machines, including a rowing machine, an elliptical, and several treadmills.

The property also offers an ice and refillable water station on all guest floors, which is a nice touch.

5. There Are 2 On-Site Dining Options

The Hyatt Centric Sapporo has 2 on-site dining options: Matsu Grill & Bar and Mr. Fish by Hyatt Centric Sapporo.

Matsu Grill & Bar, located on the 17th floor, is the hotel’s primary all-day dining venue. The restaurant specializes in traditional Hokkaido cuisine and wood-fired dishes using local ingredients. The restaurant’s bar offers original cocktails inspired by various regions within Hokkaido.

Mr. Fish by Hyatt Centric Sapporo is the hotel’s casual restaurant on the first floor, serving fish and chips made with seasonal white fish caught in the waters around Hokkaido.

Breakfast at Matsu Grill & Bar

Members with World of Hyatt Globalist status and guests who book rates that include breakfast can find it at Matsu Grill & Bar. Since complimentary breakfast is not included as a perk of World of Hyatt Discoverist status, I chose to pay for breakfast, which cost ¥4,000 ($25) per person.

The breakfast buffet featured a variety of traditional international options, including hot dishes, steamed vegetables, a bakery section, and a fruit and salad bar.

However, the highlight of the breakfast was definitely the Japanese section, which featured breakfast staples like miso soup, thick rolled omelet, and salted cod roe.

6. The Hotel Offers Excellent Views of Sapporo

Thanks to its location high above the city in the Urbannet Sapporo Link Tower, the Hyatt Centric Sapporo offers tremendous panoramic views of the city. The hotel boasts floor-to-ceiling windows throughout the lobby, restaurants, and guest rooms.

The hotel lobby is located on the 17th floor and offers some incredible views of the gardens around the Former Hokkaido Government Office Building, the Sapporo TV Tower, the mountains surrounding Sapporo, and the city itself, including Sapporo Station.

Final Thoughts

The Hyatt Centric Sapporo is an excellent new property in the heart of Sapporo, Japan.

The hotel can be booked using World of Hyatt points and provides tremendous value from points redemptions. I booked a 1-night stay for just 8,000 World of Hyatt points.

The property boasts some stunning, modern rooms. Given the hotel’s quality and location, I would absolutely stay at the Hyatt Centric Sapporo again.
